Jesus Raises a Widow’s Son
Luke 7:11-15
11Soon afterward, Jesus went to a town called Nain, and his disciples and a large crowd went along with him. 12As he approached the town gate, a dead person was being carried out—the only son of his mother, and she was a widow. And a large crowd from the town was with her.
13When the Lord saw her, his heart went out to her and he said, "Don't cry." 14Then he went up and touched the coffin, and those carrying it stood still. He said, "Young man, I say to you, get up!" 15The dead man sat up and began to talk, and Jesus gave him back to his mother.

Some points to consider from the above passage.

1. The Woman’s Situation is dire. No husband and no children. Her emotional state couldn’t be much lower.
2. The large crowd could mean that the woman, the son or her deceased husband were popular or that the people of the city had compassion and wanted to show support to the woman.
3. The woman’s situation touches the heart of the Lord Jesus.  5 Times in the New Testament it’s stated that Jesus is “moved with compassion.”
4. Obedience to the voice of God and walking in Love are the ways we fulfill the will of God.
5. Jesus stops the funeral procession with a touch to the coffin and says, “young man, I say to you, get up!”
6. Notice that Jesus didn’t pray for the dead boy but commanded him to get up.

A Mute Man
Luke 11:14
14Jesus was driving out a demon that was mute. When the demon left, the man who had been mute spoke, and the crowd was amazed.

1. The nature of the demon effects the man. In this case it effects his ability to speak.
2. Demons cause health problems and specifically mental health problems.

That doesn’t mean however that if you’ve ever had mental health problems you have or had a demon.


The Healing of a Demon-Possessed Man
Mark 5:1-20
They went across the lake to the region of the Gerasenes.2When Jesus got out of the boat, a man with an evil spirit came from the tombs to meet him. 3This man lived in the tombs, and no one could bind him any more, not even with a chain.
4For he had often been chained hand and foot, but he tore the chains apart and broke the irons on his feet. No one was strong enough to subdue him. 5Night and day among the tombs and in the hills he would cry out and cut himself with stones. 6When he saw Jesus from a distance, he ran and fell on his knees in front of him.
7He shouted at the top of his voice, "What do you want with me, Jesus, Son of the Most High God? Swear to God that you won't torture me!" 8For Jesus had said to him, "Come out of this man, you evil spirit!"
9Then Jesus asked him, "What is your name?“ "My name is Legion," he replied, "for we are many." 10And he begged Jesus again and again not to send them out of the area.
11A large herd of pigs was feeding on the nearby hillside. 12The demons begged Jesus, "Send us among the pigs; allow us to go into them." 13He gave them permission, and the evil spirits came out and went into the pigs. The herd, about two thousand in number, rushed down the steep bank into the lake and were drowned.
14Those tending the pigs ran off and reported this in the town and countryside, and the people went out to see what had happened. 15When they came to Jesus, they saw the man who had been possessed by the legion of demons, sitting there, dressed and in his right mind; and they were afraid. 16Those who had seen it told the people what had happened to the demon-possessed man—and told about the pigs as well.
17Then the people began to plead with Jesus to leave their region.
18As Jesus was getting into the boat, the man who had been demon-possessed begged to go with him. 19Jesus did not let him, but said, "Go home to your family and tell them how much the Lord has done for you, and how he has had mercy on you." 20So the man went away and began to tell in the Decapolis how much Jesus had done for him. And all the people were amazed.

1. When we are walking in our God prepared authority the demonized people will come/run to us.
2. Some demonized people have incredible strength.
3. A demon inhabiting a persons body (soulish realm) can cause mental illness and strange behavior.
4. Demons can talk through people.
5. This demon dis-obey’s Jesus and doesn’t come out when He commands it to.
6. Jesus then asks the Spirit what it’s name is.
7. A demonized person can have more than 1 spirit, it’s thought that a Roman legion had 6000 soldiers in it. This is a large number of demon spirits.
8. The Spirit doesn’t want to leave the particular area it’s in.
9. Pigs can have demons if even for a short time. Apparently there was something appealing about going into a pig before being “out” that the demon’s desired.
10. The demons caused the pigs to commit suicide. Suicide for a pig is probably a very strange phenomenon.
11. When the supernatural is in operation people will talk and come and see.
12. The people were afraid of the man when he was in his right mind? Maybe they did something to him and were afraid of revenge or being found out. Maybe they cast some type of spell on him making him some kind of substitutionary sacrifice and now he’s free causing the retribution to fall on them again? But what I think is that the people were also under the influence of the spirits and the spirits were afraid. Maybe they were just amazed and afraid about what had happened?They pleaded with Jesus to leave their region. Maybe they had demons themselves that didn’t want to be exposed and cast out? Maybe they didn’t want to take another financial loss.
13. Daniel 10:13But the prince of the Persian kingdom resisted me twenty-one days. Then Michael, one of the chief princes, came to help me, because I was detained there with the king of Persia.
14. Daniel 10:20  So he said, "Do you know why I have come to you? Soon I will return to fight against the prince of Persia, and when I go, the prince of Greece will come;
15. Ephesians 6:12  For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.
16. The first missionary is commissioned to go home but he actually goes through a 10 city region telling about all Jesus did for him.

When People receive a touch from the Lord in deliverance they are motivated from within to do amazing things, overcoming fear and doubt to share about Christ.

Revelation Knowledge
Ephesians 1:17
I keep asking that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the glorious Father, may give you the Spirit of wisdom and revelation, so that you may know him better.

Lord show us who you are and then show us who we are in you. Help us to believe what you say about us in your word and by revelation.
Revelation Knowledge is foundational
Matthew 16:17-18 Jesus replied, "Blessed are you, Simon son of Jonah, for this was not revealed to you by man, but by my Father in heaven. 18And I tell you that you are Peter, and on this rock I will build my church, and the gates of Hades will not overcome it.

Hosea 4:6
my people are destroyed from lack of knowledge.

If Jesus didn’t pray for the sick, What did he do?
He took authority over disease.

Authority
One thing that increases our authority in the Earth is when we love enough to take personal responsibility. This love and personal responsibility brings with it authority that is received.

Exousia
The Greek word for authority is exousia (from the impersonal verb exesti, "it is lawful").

1. the ability or strength with which one is endued,
2. the right to exercise power;
3. the power of rule or government,
4. the power of one whose will and commands must be obeyed by others.

Satan’s Position before the cross
Luke 10:17-20
17The seventy-two returned with joy and said, "Lord, even the demons submit to us in your name." 18He replied, "I saw Satan fall like lightning from heaven. 19I have given you authority to trample on snakes and scorpions and to overcome all the power of the enemy; nothing will harm you. 20However, do not rejoice that the spirits submit to you, but rejoice that your names are written in heaven."

Jesus talks about the position of Satan then he starts to talk about the deputized authority he’s given to his disciples.
Mark 3:27
27In fact, no one can enter a strong man's house and carry off his possessions unless he first ties up the strong man. Then he can rob his house.

Satanic authority’s current Position
Colossians 2:13b-15
He forgave us all our sins, 14having canceled the written code, with its regulations, that was against us and that stood opposed to us; he took it away, nailing it to the cross. 15And having disarmed the powers and authorities, he made a public spectacle of them, triumphing over them by the cross.

The Man with the Shriveled Hand

Luke 6:6-11
6On another Sabbath he went into the synagogue and was teaching, and a man was there whose right hand was shriveled. 7The Pharisees and the teachers of the law were looking for a reason to accuse Jesus, so they watched him closely to see if he would heal on the Sabbath. 8But Jesus knew what they were thinking and said to the man with the shriveled hand, "Get up and stand in front of everyone." So he got up and stood there. 9Then Jesus said to them, "I ask you, which is lawful on the Sabbath: to do good or to do evil, to save life or to destroy it?" 10He looked around at them all, and then said to the man, "Stretch out your hand." He did so, and his hand was completely restored. 11But they were furious and began to discuss with one another what they might do to Jesus.

1. Jesus was not afraid of men
2. Even though he knew what they were going to do he had the man stand up in front of everyone.
3. Jesus Uses the healing as a doctrinal teaching point with the stubborn Pharisees.
4. The Pharisees stubbornness is illustrated by them responding to this wonderful miracle by being furious.
5. Jesus doesn’t pray for the man with the Shriveled Hand.

Crowds Follow Jesus and try to touch Him

Mark 3:7-12
7Jesus withdrew with his disciples to the lake, and a large crowd from Galilee followed. 8When they heard all he was doing, many people came to him from Judea, Jerusalem, Idumea, and the regions across the Jordan and around Tyre and Sidon. 9Because of the crowd he told his disciples to have a small boat ready for him, to keep the people from crowding him. 10For he had healed many, so that those with diseases were pushing forward to touch him. 11Whenever the evil spirits saw him, they fell down before him and cried out, "You are the Son of God." 12But he gave them strict orders not to tell who he was.

1. Jesus want’s a small boat ready so the crowd’s can’t crowd him.
2. Ironically people were healed when they touched Jesus
3. The Demons were also manifesting/exposing themselves because of the authority on Jesus life.
4. Jesus didn’t want or need the demons to reveal who he was.
5. Jesus didn’t pray for the sick people

The Faith of the Centurion

Luke 7:1-10
1When Jesus had finished saying all this in the hearing of the people, he entered Capernaum. 2There a centurion's servant, whom his master valued highly, was sick and about to die. 3The centurion heard of Jesus and sent some elders of the Jews to him, asking him to come and heal his servant. 4When they came to Jesus, they pleaded earnestly with him, "This man deserves to have you do this, 5because he loves our nation and has built our synagogue." 6So Jesus went with them. He was not far from the house when the centurion sent friends to say to him: "Lord, don't trouble yourself, for I do not deserve to have you come under my roof. 7That is why I did not even consider myself worthy to come to you. But say the word, and my servant will be healed. 8For I myself am a man under authority, with soldiers under me. I tell this one, 'Go,' and he goes; and that one, 'Come,' and he comes. I say to my servant, 'Do this,' and he does it." 9When Jesus heard this, he was amazed at him, and turning to the crowd following him, he said, "I tell you, I have not found such great faith even in Israel." 10Then the men who had been sent returned to the house and found the servant well.

1. When you’re highly valued by your boss your life just might be saved.
2. Self Righteousness may demand Jesus to show up in person but when revelation comes a person can repent and say, “merely say the word, I’m not worthy to have you come under my roof.”
3. Sometimes God may speak to us using illustrations from our daily life and interpersonal relationships.
4. Jesus is amazed by the man’s revelation of authority. It’s interesting that Jesus equates this revelation of authority with faith.
5. The servant was healed and Jesus didn’t pray for him.

In conclusion let’s take authority over disease and sickness in people we know and love.

Prayer – having a conversation with God.

Jesus took authority over sickness and demons but for the purposes of this message we’re going to focus in on disease and sickness.

Exousia

The Greek word for authority is exousia (from the impersonal verb exesti, "it is lawful").
1. "the ability or strength with which one is endued,"
2. "power of authority," the right to exercise power;
3. "the power of rule or government," the power of one whose will and commands must be obeyed by others; more specifically of apostolic "authority," the "power" of judicial decision, it stands for "that which is subject to authority or rule,"

I will contend that the Church of Jesus Christ lacks revelation knowledge in the areas of understanding their authority.

Where we walk in the revelation of our authority in Christ things become subject to the rule and reign of Jesus Christ.

Jesus Heals the Official's Son
John 4:43-54
43After the two days he left for Galilee. 44(Now Jesus himself had pointed out that a prophet has no honor in his own country.) 45When he arrived in Galilee, the Galileans welcomed him. They had seen all that he had done in Jerusalem at the Passover Feast, for they also had been there. 46Once more he visited Cana in Galilee, where he had turned the water into wine. And there was a certain royal official whose son lay sick at Capernaum. 47When this man heard that Jesus had arrived in Galilee from Judea, he went to him and begged him to come and heal his son, who was close to death. 48"Unless you people see miraculous signs and wonders," Jesus told him, "you will never believe." 49The royal official said, "Sir, come down before my child dies." 50Jesus replied, "You may go. Your son will live." The man took Jesus at his word and departed. 51While he was still on the way, his servants met him with the news that his boy was living. 52When he inquired as to the time when his son got better, they said to him, "The fever left him yesterday at the seventh hour." 53Then the father realized that this was the exact time at which Jesus had said to him, "Your son will live." So he and all his household believed. 54This was the second miraculous sign that Jesus performed, having come from Judea to Galilee.

Jesus Heals Many
Matthew 8:14-17
14When Jesus came into Peter's house, he saw Peter's mother-in-law lying in bed with a fever. 15He touched her hand and the fever left her, and she got up and began to wait on him. 16When evening came, many who were demon-possessed were brought to him, and he drove out the spirits with a word and healed all the sick. 17This was to fulfill what was spoken through the prophet Isaiah:
"He took up our infirmities
and carried our diseases."

The Man With Leprosy
Matthew 8:1-4
1When he came down from the mountainside, large crowds followed him. 2A man with leprosy came and knelt before him and said, "Lord, if you are willing, you can make me clean." 3Jesus reached out his hand and touched the man. "I am willing," he said. "Be clean!" Immediately he was cured of his leprosy. 4Then Jesus said to him, "See that you don't tell anyone. But go, show yourself to the priest and offer the gift Moses commanded, as a testimony to them."

Jesus Heals a Paralytic
Matthew 9:1-8
1Jesus stepped into a boat, crossed over and came to his own town. 2Some men brought to him a paralytic, lying on a mat. When Jesus saw their faith, he said to the paralytic, "Take heart, son; your sins are forgiven." 3At this, some of the teachers of the law said to themselves, "This fellow is blaspheming!" 4Knowing their thoughts, Jesus said, "Why do you entertain evil thoughts in your hearts? 5Which is easier: to say, 'Your sins are forgiven,' or to say, 'Get up and walk'? 6But so that you may know that the Son of Man has authority on earth to forgive sins...." Then he said to the paralytic, "Get up, take your mat and go home." 7And the man got up and went home. 8When the crowd saw this, they were filled with awe; and they praised God, who had given such authority to men.

The Healing at the Pool
John 5:1-8
1Some time later, Jesus went up to Jerusalem for a feast of the Jews. 2Now there is in Jerusalem near the Sheep Gate a pool, which in Aramaic is called Bethesda and which is surrounded by five covered colonnades. 3Here a great number of disabled people used to lie—the blind, the lame, the paralyzed. 5One who was there had been an invalid for thirty-eight years. 6When Jesus saw him lying there and learned that he had been in this condition for a long time, he asked him, "Do you want to get well?" 7"Sir," the invalid replied, "I have no one to help me into the pool when the water is stirred. While I am trying to get in, someone else goes down ahead of me."
8Then Jesus said to him, "Get up! Pick up your mat and walk." 9At once the man was cured; he picked up his mat and walked. The day on which this took place was a Sabbath, …

Prayer associated with healing.
Here in Acts 28:8 we see the Apostle Paul praying before he ministeres healing through the laying on of hands. It could be understood that the healing came from the prayer but it's more likely that the healing virtue of Christ flowed through Paul into the man. It's probably that Paul was praying about this situation and the Lord may have spoken to him to lay his hands on him to cause the healing to take place.

Acts 28:8
His father was sick in bed, suffering from fever and dysentery. Paul went in to see him and, after prayer, placed his hands on him and healed him.

This instance of prayer being associated with healing is in regard to church elders who also anoint with oil in the name of the Lord. This is a prayer of faith that will make the sick person well.

James 5:14-15
Is any one of you sick? He should call the elders of the church to pray over him and anoint him with oil in the name of the Lord. And the prayer offered in faith will make the sick person well; the Lord will raise him up. If he has sinned, he will be forgiven.

Trust in God, Trust in Man

An enemy of this and any ministry is a group of people’s inability to work together. There are many things that can contribute to this but let’s talk about how trust helps or hinders us moving forward as a ministry.

I’ve coached basketball teams where players had challenges catching the ball. When passed the ball they would drop it. The next time down the floor they are open and calling for the ball but due to the last drop the passing player doesn’t trust his teammate any more. Both players have a point, however the other team now has a 5 on 4 advantage on the offensive end of the floor for the rest of the game until this trust issue is resolved.

Luke 16:12
And if you have not been trustworthy with someone else's property, who will give you property of your own?

Man will always let you down but the Lord will never let you down. The previous statement is NOT SCRIPTURE but people seem to quote it like it is. Usually those who quote this have been hurt and sometimes severely. This STRONGHOLD gives a form of comfort but will ultimately prohibit a group of people from reaching their God ordained potential.

Psalm 118:8 is the closest thing to the preceding statement.
Psalm 118:8
It is better to take refuge in the LORD than to trust in man.

If man will always let you down can you ever trust people?
What happens to people if you expect them to mess up?
Does that have a powerful effect on them doing right? Or does it prompt them to do wrong?

Matthew 9:29b
…"According to your faith will it be done to you";
Trust is a key component of faith.

It takes time to establish trust.

The simple and un-hurt are the quickest to trust… (Children)
The simple and hurt are the quickest to not trust… (Teenagers and some adults)
The Wise and unhurt are quick to trust… (a Small group of Adults)
The wise and hurt are cautious to trust… (most Adults)

…because not all people that are to be trusted are the same. They are all people but they are not all the same.

Wisdom, fear, faith and experience tells you who to trust and who not to trust.

Things that Prompt Trust

Display of Power Exodus 14:31
And when the Israelites saw the great power the LORD displayed against the Egyptians, the people feared the LORD and put their trust in him and in Moses his servant.

Exodus 19:9
The LORD said to Moses, "I am going to come to you in a dense cloud, so that the people will hear me speaking with you and will always put their trust in you." Then Moses told the LORD what the people had said.

Being Faithful over Time
Luke 16:10
"Whoever can be trusted with very little can also be trusted with much, and whoever is dishonest with very little will also be dishonest with much.

Trusting in the Wrong Things Trusting Military Might Psalm 20:7
Some trust in chariots and some in horses, but we trust in the name of the LORD our God.

Trusting in Foreign Nations Isaiah 31:1
Woe to those who go down to Egypt for help, who rely on horses, who trust in the multitude of their chariots and in the great strength of their horsemen, but do not look to the Holy One of Israel, or seek help from the LORD.

Trusting Walls Deuteronomy 28:52
They will lay siege to all the cities throughout your land until the high fortified walls in which you trust fall down. They will besiege all the cities throughout the land the LORD your God is giving you.

The Great Wall of China
The Great Wall of China is considered by many in the past and present as a magnificent military defense, the Great Wall was often breached by invaders, including Genghis Kahn whose Mongols came through in 1112.

Ironically they did not destroy any part of the Wall. Someone opened it from the inside for them probably taking a bribe.

Trusting in Riches Proverbs 11:28
Whoever trusts in riches will fall, but the righteous will thrive like a green leaf.

A Leader who Can be Trusted Psalm 21:7
For the king trusts in the LORD; through the unfailing love of the Most High he will not be shaken.
Where to Confidently Place All Your Trust

The Word of God Psalm 19:7
The law of the LORD is perfect, reviving the soul. The statutes of the LORD are trustworthy, making wise the simple.

Trust in God and in his Son Jesus Psalm 62:8
Trust in him at all times, O people; pour out your hearts to him, for God is our refuge. Selah
Proverbs 3:5
Trust in the LORD with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding;
Trust in God and Jesus
John 14:1
"Do not let your hearts be troubled. Trust in God ; trust also in me.

Romans 10:11
As the Scripture says, "Anyone who trusts in him will never be put to shame."

Benefits of Trusting in the Lord

The Love of God Surrounds Psalm 32:10
Many are the woes of the wicked, but the Lord's unfailing love surrounds the man who trusts in him.

Supernatural Safety Daniel 6:23
The king was overjoyed and gave orders to lift Daniel out of the den. And when Daniel was lifted from the den, no wound was found on him, because he had trusted in his God.

The Love and Salvation of God Psalm 13:5
But I trust in your unfailing love; my heart rejoices in your salvation.

Trust Brings New Life
When a person walks into an intimate relationship with Jesus Christ their life is being changed and their heart is being made new.
2 Corinthians 5:17
Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; the old has gone, the new has come!
When we trust the Lord we get a new way of Thinking opened up to us
Ephesians 4:22-24
22You were taught, with regard to your former way of life, to put off your old self, which is being corrupted by its deceitful desires; 23to be made new in the attitude of your minds; 24and to put on the new self, created to be like God in true righteousness and holiness.

A person who trusts and puts faith that the Lord Jesus will save their soul on judgment day will be saved. Leaning in faith and trust by believing in Jesus, His substitutionary sacrifice for sin will make a person righteous and God will accept them into his eternal kingdom.

Romans 9:33b
the one who trusts in him will never be put to shame."
