A Chronological Look from the Cross to the Resurrection

Matthew:45-50 45
From noon until three in the afternoon darkness came over all the land. 46 About three in the afternoon Jesus cried out in a loud voice, “Eli, Eli, lema sabachthani?” (which means “My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?”). 47 When some of those standing there heard this, they said, “He’s calling Elijah.” 48 Immediately one of them ran and got a sponge. He filled it with wine vinegar, put it on a staff, and offered it to Jesus to drink. 49 The rest said, “Now leave him alone. Let’s see if Elijah comes to save him.” 50 And when Jesus had cried out again in a loud voice, he gave up his spirit.

It’s commonly taught that at this point in the life of Jesus God the father has turned his head from Jesus, severing his relationship with Jesus temporarily, due to the reality that all the sins of the world for all time from those who look to the messiah in faith from eternity past to those who look back in time, in faith to the cross from eternity future, we’re upon Jesus.

This would be an especially acute spiritual pain for Jesus Considering Hebrews 5:7.

Hebrews 5:7 (Amplified)
In the days of His flesh [Jesus] offered up definite, special petitions [for that which He not only wanted but needed] and supplications with strong crying and tears to Him Who was [always] able to save Him [out] from death, and He was heard because of His reverence toward God [His godly fear, His piety, in that He shrank from the horrors of separation from the bright presence of the Father].

Let’s look at another possibility. Jesus in making this cry from the cross is actually quoting Psalm 22:1 and it’s a common Rabbinical custom to start speaking a passage of scripture before one would begin teaching on it due to the fact that they didn’t have what we today call “chapter and verse”. The Rabbi would speak the first part of the passage to get the listeners to focus there.

It’s also possible that Jesus is teaching from the cross with his dying breath illustrating the fulfillment of prophecy to those who have ears to hear and a knowledge of Psalm 22.

This one Psalm has approximately 12 prophetic fulfillments.

Professor Peter Stoner (1888-1980)- Stoner was Chairman of the Departments of Mathematics and Astronomy at Pasadena City College until 1953, and Chairman of the Science Division of Westmont College from 1953 to 1957. Stoner calculated the probability of one man fulfilling only a handful of the over 300 Messianic prophecies. In 1944, he published his research results in Science Speaks: Scientific Proof of the Accuracy of Prophecy and the Bible.

Stoner concluded that the probability of one person fulfilling just eight of the specific prophecies was one chance in 1017 (one followed by 17 zeros). How about one person fulfilling just 48 of the over 300 prophecies? Stoner calculated these odds at one chance in 10157 -- way beyond statistical impossibility!

We take 1017 silver dollars and lay them on the face of Texas. They will cover all of the state two feet deep. Now mark one of these silver dollars and stir the whole mass thoroughly… Blindfold a man and tell him…he must pick up one silver dollar… What chance would he have of getting the right one? Just the same chance that the prophets would have of writing…eight prophecies and having them come true in any one man.

John 19:30
When he had received the drink, Jesus said, “It is finished.” With that, he bowed his head and gave up his spirit.

I personally believe that Jesus paid for all the sins of mankind on the cross because of this statement and my understanding of it, however, Jesus’s physical body was dead for three days. Let’s watch a short video to segue into the next portion of the message.

Colossians 2:15
15 And having disarmed the powers and authorities, he made a public spectacle of them, triumphing over them by the cross.

Ephesians 4
7 But to each one of us grace has been given as Christ apportioned it. 8 This is why it[a] says: “When he ascended on high, he took many captives and gave gifts to his people.”[b] 9 (What does “he ascended” mean except that he also descended to the lower, earthly regions[c]? 10 He who descended is the very one who ascended higher than all the heavens, in order to fill the whole universe.)

We know Jesus descended before he ascended. I believe he led the righteous saints from the Old Testament who looked forward to the messiah in faith into the presence of God.

 Matthew 27:51-53
51 At that moment the curtain of the temple was torn in two from top to bottom. The earth shook, the rocks split 52 and the tombs broke open. The bodies of many holy people who had died were raised to life. 53 They came out of the tombs after Jesus’ resurrection and went into the holy city and appeared to many people.

Revelation 1:17b-18
I am the First and the Last. 18 I am the Living One; I was dead, and now look, I am alive for ever and ever! And I hold the keys of death and Hades.

Where did Jesus get these keys?

Hebrews 2:14-15
14 Since the children have flesh and blood, he too shared in their humanity so that by his death he might break the power of him who holds the power of death—that is, the devil— 15 and free those who all their lives were held in slavery by their fear of death.

By conquering death Jesus frees people from being controlled by their fear of death. We realize that we will live forever in eternity with Jesus so we’re not under the same compulsions and controls as someone who thinks that when this life is over they cease to have consciousness.

John 20:17,18
17 Jesus said, “Do not hold on to me, for I have not yet ascended to the Father. Go instead to my brothers and tell them, ‘I am ascending to my Father and your Father, to my God and your God.’” 18 Mary Magdalene went to the disciples with the news: “I have seen the Lord!” And she told them that he had said these things to her.

After Jesus died, we know he descended to the lower earthly region we know he has the keys of death and hades. And we know he instructed Mary to not hold onto him because he hadn’t returned to the father yet.

Christ is the First fruits of the Resurrection
 

1 Corinthians 15:42 42 So will it be with the resurrection of the dead. The body that is sown is perishable, it is raised imperishable; 43 it is sown in dishonor, it is raised in glory; it is sown in weakness, it is raised in power; 44 it is sown a natural body, it is raised a spiritual body.

1 Corinthians 15:51-54
51 Listen, I tell you a mystery: We will not all sleep, but we will all be changed— 52 in a flash, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet. For the trumpet will sound, the dead will be raised imperishable, and we will be changed. 53 For the perishable must clothe itself with the imperishable, and the mortal with immortality. 54 When the perishable has been clothed with the imperishable, and the mortal with immortality, then the saying that is written will come true: “Death has been swallowed up in victory.”

1 Corinthians 15:58
58 Therefore, my dear brothers and sisters, stand firm. Let nothing move you. Always give yourselves fully to the work of the Lord, because you know that your labor in the Lord is not in vain.

We know when Jesus ascended he gave gifts to men. These gifts are our five fold ministers.

11 So Christ himself gave the apostles, the prophets, the evangelists, the pastors and teachers, 12 to equip his people for works of service, so that the body of Christ may be built up 13 until we all reach unity in the faith and in the knowledge of the Son of God and become mature, attaining to the whole measure of the fullness of Christ.

The goal of these ministry gifts is to get the body of Christ equipped for service and built up so we may reach the unity of the faith and be formed into the functioning image of Jesus himself fully.

Let’s prioritize the work of God in and through our lives, realizing that we are sowing seeds for eternal life and an eternal resurrection. Let’s pray that we receive the spirit of revelation knowledge to know how fragile and short this life truly is and how glorious and eternal our life with Christ is going to be when the trumpet sounds!

Keeping an Eye on Things

The Sons of Issachar

1 Chronicles 12:32a
from Issachar, men who understood the times and knew what Israel should do

In the military campaign to turn Saul’s kingdom over to David, it seems that the sons of Issachar were the advisors or wise men in the ranks. The majority of the others are warriors.

Ezekiel’s Call to be a Watchman

Ezekiel 33:1-7
The word of the Lord came to me: 2 “Son of man, speak to your people and say to them: ‘When I bring the sword against a land, and the people of the land choose one of their men and make him their watchman, 3 and he sees the sword coming against the land and blows the trumpet to warn the people, 4 then if anyone hears the trumpet but does not heed the warning and the sword comes and takes their life, their blood will be on their own head. 5 Since they heard the sound of the trumpet but did not heed the warning, their blood will be on their own head. If they had heeded the warning, they would have saved themselves. 6 But if the watchman sees the sword coming and does not blow the trumpet to warn the people and the sword comes and takes someone’s life, that person’s life will be taken because of their sin, but I will hold the watchman accountable for their blood.’ 7 “Son of man, I have made you a watchman for the people of Israel; so hear the word I speak and give them warning from me.

The ministry of the watchman is not very rewarding because you want to be wrong and you are not very popular because your message is “negative”. However, sounding the alarm is your responsibility and if you fail in that responsibility you will be held liable before God for not raising your voice. It’s not a ministry for those who want to be popular.

Instructions from Jesus

Matthew 16:2,3
2 He replied, “When evening comes, you say, ‘It will be fair weather, for the sky is red,’ 3 and in the morning, ‘Today it will be stormy, for the sky is red and overcast.’ You know how to interpret the appearance of the sky, but you cannot interpret the signs of the times.

In some ways I believe interpreting the signs of the times is very spiritual because it would seem that very few people are doing it but in other ways this activity is rooted in a form of wisdom that I believe is readily available to anyone that desires to have it.

James 1:5
If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you.

This word from Jesus in the context of the Pharisees demanding a sign, is clearly an indictment against being unable to interpret the signs of the times. Being unable to know what the future holds based on basic facts is something that Jesus expects us to be able to do.   In order to do this, our heads must be removed from the proverbial sand.

It’s important to understand that not everyone thinks like you do. Some do have wicked agendas they are attempting to accomplish. It’s important to listen to the words of people and especially watch what they do.

What you are doing speaks so loudly I can hardly hear what you are saying.

"Bread and Circuses" (or bread and games) is a metaphor for a superficial means of appeasement.

In the case of politics, the phrase is used to describe the creation of public approval, not through exemplary or excellent public service or public policy, but through diversion; distraction; or the mere satisfaction of the immediate, shallow requirements of a populace, as an offered "palliative." Juvenal said it was a simplistic motivation of common people. The phrase also implies the erosion or ignorance of civic duty amongst the concerns of the common man.

Roman politicians devised a plan in 140 B.C. to win the votes of these new citizens: giving out cheap food and entertainment, "bread and circuses", would be the most effective way to rise to power.

I agree I’d rather watch the final 4 for 2 hours than c-span for 2 hours but you and I as American Christians have a responsibility to ourselves, children, and fellow man to keep an eye on things in our world. Jesus said so.

Media – Most media outlets are heavily funded. One has to remember that it’s unwise to bite the hand that feeds you so understanding the funding sources is something any good watchman should consider before jumping on any idea as fact. The motive of the “trumpet blower” should be factored into any information one receives.

It’s been my experience that people who’ve been abused or neglected by authority figures during formative years of life tend to see authority figures in a different light than those who have not been through these experiences. Not to say they are right or wrong due to these experiences but it should be factored in when trying to understand the signs of the times.

Chicken Little called for calamity with the phrase, “The sky is falling” and at times we may run into people who are “Chicken Little's”.  Sorting through information in this information age while removing personal pre-dispositions can be difficult. Sometimes if we look hard enough we can find what we’re looking for. Even if it’s really not there or only there in a very small way.

One question a watchman has to ask themselves is, “Who do I trust?” and why.

One thing to consider is a “watchman” who is simply capitalizing on the fears of people. There will be a story on radiation falling on America from a nuclear attack by the North Koreans and then followed up by the sale of overly priced iodine tablets that reduce your chances of getting radiation sickness should the attack actually happen.

Is the attack possible? Sure.  Is it likely?  I don’t know. What’s the cost of Iodine tablets off the crony watchman’s website? Is it fair market price? Is the cost worth the protection it potentially could give you?

The Denver Post, on February 15th, ran an Associated Press article entitled Homeland Security aims to buy 1.6b rounds of ammo, so far to little notice.  It confirmed that the Department of Homeland Security has issued an open purchase order for 1.6 billion rounds of ammunition.  As reported elsewhere, some of this purchase order is for hollow-point rounds, forbidden by international law for use in war, along with a frightening amount specialized for snipers. Also reported elsewhere, at the height of the Iraq War the Army was expending less than 6 million rounds a month.  Therefore 1.6 billion rounds would be enough to sustain a hot war for 20+ years.  In America.

The Key To Victory

Holy Spirit Empowered Discipline

Self Discipline – doing something you don’t like in order to get or achieve something that you place a higher value upon; correction or regulation of oneself for the sake of improvement.

Thesis: Allow the Holy Spirit to empower you today with the self discipline you need to govern your life in a way that causes maximum impact for God, maximum destruction to the kingdoms of darkness, and maximum blessings for you and your family.

2 Timothy 1:7
For the Spirit God gave us does not make us timid, but gives us power, love and self-discipline.

Timidity

Fearfulness: "cowardice and timidity“ lacking in boldness or determination

Power - dunamis, refers to intrinsic power or inherent ability, the power or ability to carry out some function, the potential for functioning in some way power, might, strength, ability, capability, the power residing in a thing by virtue of its nature.

Acts 1:8
But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.”

Why Have the Holy Spirit?

Luke 24:49  
“I am going to send you what my Father has promised; but stay in the city until you have been clothed with power from on high.”

John 16:7
But very truly I tell you, it is for your good that I am going away. Unless I go away, the Advocate will not come to you; but if I go, I will send him to you.

The only way John 16:7 is true is if you and I carry on the work of Jesus Christ. Jesus was doing a great job so for him to go, and it be good, it must mean that you and I will be endued with power to perpetuate the ministry of Jesus in the Earth as his chosen vessels.

Jesus died so we could receive the Holy Spirit. Don’t treat the Holy Sprit like he’s not important or a 3rd class citizen of the trinity. He’s God and He empowers you and I to be the kind of people that are pleasing to God.

Philippians 4:13
I can do all this through him who gives me strength.

If we don’t know what to do it creates timidity or indecision but when we have a clear word of instruction, it becomes actionable intelligence. This is when we, as God’s people, must seize the kairos moment God is presenting before us.

Agape Love

1 Corinthians 13:4-8
4 Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. 5 It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. 6 Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. 7 It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. 8 Love never fails.

The Greek word for soundness of mind or self-discipline is sophronismos. Sophronismos is derived from the Greek word sophron which literally means, “to save the mind”.

If you and I are to do what God’s called us to do we must have a certain level of mastery over our own minds.

Sometimes our own worst enemy is ourselves and how we see ourselves. We have meditations about ourselves that others don’t know about and we end up fulfilling these secret meditations.
 

We must allow the Cross of Jesus Christ to penetrate and permeate every part of our personalities and allow Christ’s Word by His authority to re-program our minds allowing us to see ourselves the way God sees us.

It’s one thing to pick yourself up by your boot straps and do the right thing for a season hating every minute of it, only to find yourself after a month, six months or a year going right back to whatever destructive behavior we were partaking of. It’s another thing to allow the living God to reprogram your wants and desires changing us on the inside.

I heard a man say one time, “If we could do what we knew to do, we’d all be rich, happy and skinny.” I thought that word was perhaps a bit harsh but there was truth in it.

The key is to have mastery over our thinking and our thought lives. The Holy Spirit gives us sophronismos (self-discipline) as a promise. None of us has to be a victim of our own thought lives anymore. There is power available from heaven to prompt and direct us to choose what is best and then the power to act on the choice.

Train and Run to Win!

1 Corinthians 9:24-27
24 Do you not know that in a race all the runners run, but only one gets the prize? Run in such a way as to get the prize. 25 Everyone who competes in the games goes into strict training. They do it to get a crown that will not last, but we do it to get a crown that will last forever. 26 Therefore I do not run like someone running aimlessly; I do not fight like a boxer beating the air. 27 No, I strike a blow to my body and make it my slave so that after I have preached to others, I myself will not be disqualified for the prize.

Law arouses sinful passions

Romans 7:4-6
4 So, my brothers and sisters, you also died to the law through the body of Christ, that you might belong to another, to him who was raised from the dead, in order that we might bear fruit for God. 5 For when we were in the realm of the flesh, the sinful passions aroused by the law were at work in us, so that we bore fruit for death. 6 But now, by dying to what once bound us, we have been released from the law so that we serve in the new way of the Spirit, and not in the old way of the written code.

What is the law of the Spirit of life found in Romans 8:2? The law of the Spirit of Life is the guidance of the Holy Spirit as He gives us the desire to live a holy life, wisdom concerning how to overcome the world, bodily passions and self-will, and the power to choose holiness in place of spiritual uncleanness.

Allow the Holy Spirit to empower you today with the self discipline you need to govern your life in a way that causes maximum impact for God, maximum destruction to the kingdoms of darkness, and maximum blessings for you and your family.

Speed the Return of the Lord, Release the Kingdom

Final Point:  what is the Gospel of the Kingdom?

Jesus is Coming Back!

Acts 1:9-11
Now when He had spoken these things, while they watched, He was taken up, and a cloud received Him out of their sight. And while they looked steadfastly toward heaven as He went up, behold, two men stood by them in white apparel, who also said, "Men of Galilee, why do you stand gazing up into heaven? This same Jesus, who was taken up from you into heaven, will so come in like manner as you saw Him go into heaven."

The coming of Christ will be instantaneous and worldwide. "For as the lightning comes from the east and flashes to the west, so also will the coming of the Son of Man be." —Matthew 24:27

The coming of Christ will be visible to all. "Then the sign of the Son of Man will appear in heaven, and then all the tribes of the earth will mourn, and they will see the Son of Man coming on the clouds of heaven with power and great glory." —Matthew 24:30

The resurrection of the righteous will occur. "For the Lord Himself will descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trumpet of God. And the dead in Christ will rise first." —1 Thessalonians 4:16

The saved who are alive at Christ's coming will be caught up together with the resurrected to meet the Lord in the air. "Then we who are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. And thus we shall always be with the Lord." —1 Thessalonians 4:17

Jesus will be looking for some things when he returns Jesus is Looking for… Faith

Luke 18:8b
However, when the Son of Man comes, will he find faith on the earth?”

Faithful and wise people who will help and feed others the Word of God.

Matthew 24:45-51
45 “Who then is the faithful and wise servant, whom the master has put in charge of the servants in his household to give them their food at the proper time? 46 It will be good for that servant whose master finds him doing so when he returns. 47 Truly I tell you, he will put him in charge of all his possessions. 48 But suppose that servant is wicked and says to himself, ‘My master is staying away a long time,’ 49 and he then begins to beat his fellow servants and to eat and drink with drunkards. 50 The master of that servant will come on a day when he does not expect him and at an hour he is not aware of. 51 He will cut him to pieces and assign him a place with the hypocrites, where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.

Speed the Return of Christ?

Speed His Coming

2 Peter 3:10-12
10 But the day of the Lord will come like a thief. The heavens will disappear with a roar; the elements will be destroyed by fire, and the earth and everything done in it will be laid bare. 11 Since everything will be destroyed in this way, what kind of people ought you to be? You ought to live holy and godly lives 12 as you look forward to the day of God and speed its coming. How do we speed the return of the Lord?

Matthew 24:14
14 And this gospel of the kingdom will be preached in the whole world as a testimony to all nations, and then the end will come.

We can’t predict the return of the Lord. No man knows the day nor the hour however we can speed the coming of the Lord by preaching the gospel of the Kingdom to every nation.

What is the Gospel of the Kingdom?

Obviously, central to the gospel of the KINGdom is an understanding that Jesus is the King of the kingdom. In the Bible Jesus, because of his position as king, had authority over sickness, demons, and even death. This was before the ascension. Now seated at the right hand of the father he is interceding for us to also exert the influence of the kingdom according to Romans 8:34.

What is the gospel of the Kingdom?

It’s inclusive of us being sinners, Jesus dying on the cross and me believing in that to be reconciled to God. But it’s really more than that! The Kingdom is within reach or it’s at hand. This is part of the message of the gospel of the Kingdom. The kingdom of God is a different reality than the kingdoms of this world.

The Kingdom has been available for 2000 years.

Everyone who bows to him is a citizen of that kingdom. The Lords prayer teaches us to pray the kingdom to increase from heaven to the Earth.

The terminology “Kingdom of Heaven” is in the gospel of Matthew. It’s used interchangeably in the same parables as Mark and Luke use Kingdom of God.  Matthew was written primarily to Jewish readers. Jews don’t like to use the name of G_d.

Our reconciliation is founded in the death of Jesus.

The Gospel of the Kingdom is founded in everything Jesus did. By virtue of the covenant we also are seated with him in heavenly places with authority, healing power, delivering power, Jesus is the King!

On Pentecost in Chapter 2 Peter preaches that Jesus is alive! V. 32 Because Jesus is alive he’s now seated with the father, raised from the dead and now pouring out the Holy Spirit.

The Gospel of the Kingdom puts an emphasis on a living King. Check out Romans 10:9,10. Our life has to come into alignment with the Lordship of Jesus Christ. The gospel of the Kingdom is focused on Jesus being raised from the dead.

There is more to the kingdom gospel than reconciliation. Reconciliation is very important however there is kingdom life available (at hand) to the citizen of Heaven.

There is a power flowing from heaven (The Holy Spirit) that prompts people to bow to King Jesus.

In the Gospel of the Kingdom, the Holy Spirit is an integral part of the message. The proof of the kingdom is God heals. You can’t separate it from healing and power.

1 Corinthians 4:20
For the kingdom of God is not a matter of talk but of power.

The gospel of the Kingdom is intrinsically tied to obedience. If he’s our king we will obey him. The Holy Spirit is available to all flesh in the gospel of the Kingdom.

Acts 2:39 39 
The promise is for you and your children and for all who are far off—for all whom the Lord our God will call.”

The Power of God is Available

2 Peter 1:3,4
3 His divine power has given us everything we need for a Godly life through our knowledge of him who called us by his own glory and goodness. 4 Through these he has given us his very great and precious promises, so that through them you may participate in the divine nature, having escaped the corruption in the world caused by evil desires.

1. His divine power has been given

In a spiritual battle, you on your own, are not equipped. You need God to equip you for this kind of thing. One of the ways God’s divine power has been given is through his word.

A. God has given his word
The Word of God that’s personalized and memorized is the Word of God that can be utilized. The    anointing is not on the chapter and verse but on the principle and precept.

One of the tactics of the enemy is to get you to believe a lie.

John 17:17
Sanctify them by the truth; your word is truth.

The Word of God has a sanctifying effect. Sanctify means to set apart to a sacred purpose or to free from sin. To progressively take on the image of Jesus Christ inwardly and thus outwardly with our thoughts, attitudes and actions.

Psalm 119:11
I have hidden your word in my heart that I might not sin against you.

Hebrews 4:12
For the word of God is alive and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart.

4 Jesus answered, “It is written: ‘Man shall not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of God.’”

7 Jesus answered him, “It is also written: ‘Do not put the Lord your God to the test.’”

B. Authority has been given

Matthew 28:18-20
18 Then Jesus came to them and said, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. 19 Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”

Luke 10:18-20
18 He replied, “I saw Satan fall like lightning from heaven. 19 I have given you authority to trample on snakes and scorpions and to overcome all the power of the enemy; nothing will harm you. 20 However, do not rejoice that the spirits submit to you, but rejoice that your names are written in heaven.”

1 John 4:4
4 You, dear children, are from God and have overcome them, because the one who is in you is greater than the one who is in the world.

2. Everything we need for a Godly life is available

God has made resources available through his Word and by his Spirit to allow you and I to live a Godly life.

There are two main points to living a Godly life.
  • Not doing the sinful things you used to do.
  • Start doing the Godly things you haven’t been doing.
To generate an exhaustive list of sinful and Godly behavior at this point would take the rest of the day. Allow the Word of God and the Holy Spirit speak to you about the sins you need to let go of and the Godliness you need to pick up. I believe he’s already spoken to you about these issues and he wants you to receive grace so you can become the person He wants you to be. The person you want to be.

3. All these resources come through our knowledge of Him

We must spend time in the presence of God if we’re to have “heavenly downloads” of knowledge.

Revelation knowledge is the foundation of the Church

4. God has called us by his own glory and goodness

We have been called out and chosen by God to be his son’s and daughters. What an incredible privilege and responsibility to be chosen by God!

Colossians 3:12
12 Therefore, as God’s chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience.

Because we’re chosen by God and on the receiving end of perfect love, (1 John 4:18) we should manifest in our lives compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness, and patience.

Galatians 4:6
Because you are his sons, God sent the Spirit of his Son into our hearts, the Spirit who calls out, “Abba, Father.”

5. Through the promises of God, we can participate in the divine nature and escape the corruption in the world caused by evil desires

We need to know what God has promised us individually. We can know these promises by the Word of God and they should be confirmed by the Spirit of God.  What has God promised you?

When something better is presented it’s easier to let go of what we have or what we’ve been clinging to that is sinful or a wrong way of thinking. When God’s promise for your life is real, a pursuit begins toward the promise and other things that are of a less noble nature tend to fall off or away from you as you start and continue in your pursuit of the heavenly promises God has given you.

Hebrews 12:1
Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles. And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us,

Galatians 5:16
16 So I say, walk by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the flesh.

In Conclusion:
  1. His divine power has been given
  2. Everything we need for a godly life is available
  3. It comes through knowledge of Him
  4. God Has called us by his own glory and goodness
  5. Through the promises of God we can participate in the divine nature and escape the corruption in the world caused by evil desires
Our “job” is to get under the spout where the glory comes out. John 6:29 Jesus answered, “The work of God is this: to believe in the one he has sent.” Our pursuit of God is a faith pursuit. We are pursuing his heart and there we will find all the empowering knowledge we need in order to live upright and Godly lives!

God's Will for My Life

Thesis: Everyone has a place and everyone has an evolving purpose in the Church.

*This is determined by the revealed will of God first.
*Second, it’s determined by our desires.
*Third, it’s determined by what we are good at.
*Fourth, it should be confirmed by people in authority.



The Revealed will of God

Romans 12:1,2
Therefore, I urge you, brothers and sisters, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God—this is your true and proper worship. 2 Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is —his good, pleasing and perfect will.

1.  View God’s mercy
2.  Offer your body as a living sacrifice holy and pleasing to God
3.  This is true and proper worship
4.  Don’t be conformed to the pattern of this world
5.  Be transformed by mind renewal
6.  Then the good and pleasing will of God will be recognized.

1.  In View of God’s Mercy

The great price God paid for us in Christ’s death on the cross.

Romans 5:8
8 But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.

True value is not determined by appraisers but by what someone will literally pay.



2. Offer Your Body

We need to offer our Body as a living sacrifice, following the example Christ has given us.

The most popular saying of Jesus Christ judged by the number of times it appears in scripture is “If anyone would come after me he must deny himself take up his cross and follow me.”

Obviously the number of times this is recorded puts a priority to the concept.

3. True and Proper Worship

The Bible calls the viewing of God’s mercy and the subsequent response of the believer to also sacrificially lay their life down as true and proper worship.

John 4:23,24
Yet a time is coming and has now come when the true worshipers will worship the Father in the Spirit and in truth, for they are the kind of worshipers the Father seeks. God is spirit, and his worshipers must worship in the Spirit and in truth.”

4.  Don’t be Conformed to the Pattern of this World

We are called to break the mold the world is trying to put us in.

The Century of the Self, a 4 part documentary released by the BBC is an amazingly eye opening display on how we are manipulated by various forms of media. This manipulation is usually financially driven.

There is a battle for control of your mind. Many forces want to influence your thinking but as Christians God should be the one we’re listening to.

We are instructed to allow God to put us into His mold. This way we are transformed into God’s image, getting our minds renewed.

5.  Be Transformed by Mind Renewal

2 Corinthians 10:5
We demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God, and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ.

Philippians 4:8
8 Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things.

A great way to understand mind renewal is to understand the expression, “garbage in; garbage out.”

6.  The Good and Pleasing Will of God

Then we will KNOW the will of God. We can know it but unfortunately many in the Body of Christ are perplexed about the will of God. Perhaps they haven’t followed the pattern in Romans 12:1,2? I believe if anyone will do this the specific will of God will be opened to that person.

Our desires become God’s desires when we follow the process in Romans 12:1,2

Psalm 37:4
Take delight in the Lord, and he will give you the desires of your heart.

Doing what we're good at.

Doing what we’re good at just makes sense. If we’re very grouchy and can’t seem to change, we wouldn’t make the best door greeter.

Confirmed by Authority

Hebrews 13:17
Have confidence in your leaders and submit to their authority, because they keep watch over you as those who must give an account. Do this so that their work will be a joy, not a burden, for that would be of no benefit to you.

1 Peter 5:2-4
2 Be shepherds of God’s flock that is under your care, watching over them—not because you must, but because you are willing, as God wants you to be; not pursuing dishonest gain, but eager to serve; 3 not lording it over those entrusted to you, but being examples to the flock. 4 And when the Chief Shepherd appears, you will receive the crown of glory that will never fade away.

A culture of service and humility from everyone in the Church.

Matthew 23:11,12
The greatest among you will be your servant. For those who exalt themselves will be humbled, and those who humble themselves will be exalted.

One of the responsibilities of those in spiritual authority is to equip his people for works of service, so that the body of Christ may be built up. (Eph 4:12)

There is a direct relationship between authority and responsibility. Those that have the responsibility also have the authority. Some who have no responsibility feel like they should have authority but this just isn’t fair or realistic.

The Church has people who are responsible and they should also be the most humble. This helps establish the right culture of love, and service for the entire body.

Sometimes there are people in the congregation who are very gifted but don’t want to take much responsibility. This will weaken their authority.

Jesus Didn’t Pray for Sick People (Part 5)

Ephesians 4:11-13
11It was he who gave some to be apostles, some to be prophets, some to be evangelists, and some to be pastors and teachers, 12to prepare God's people for works of service, so that the body of Christ may be built up 13until we all reach unity in the faith and in the knowledge of the Son of God and become mature, attaining to the whole measure of the fullness of Christ.

Fullness in Christ
Colossians 2:9,10
 9For in Christ all the fullness of the Deity lives in bodily form, 10and you have been given fullness in Christ, who is the head over every power and authority.

Jesus Heals the Blind
Matthew 9:27-31
27As Jesus went on from there, two blind men followed him, calling out, "Have mercy on us, Son of David!"  28When he had gone indoors, the blind men came to him, and he asked them, "Do you believe that I am able to do this?"       "Yes, Lord," they replied. 29Then he touched their eyes and said, "According to your faith will it be done to you"; 30and their sight was restored. Jesus warned them sternly, "See that no one knows about this." 31But they went out and spread the news about him all over that region.

1.  Son of David 
2 Samuel 7:15,16  15 But my love will never be taken away from him,(David) as I took it away from Saul, whom I removed from before you. 16 Your house and your kingdom will endure forever before me; your throne will be established forever.' "

Seventeen verses in the New Testament describe Jesus as the "son of David."
From the line of David will come an everlasting kingdom. Calling Jesus the Son of David is a way of saying, “You are the messiah.”
It references his kingly identity as well.

Matthew 1 gives the genealogical proof that Jesus, in His humanity, was a direct descendant of Abraham and David through Joseph, Jesus' legal father. The genealogy in Luke chapter 3 gives Jesus' lineage through His mother, Mary. Jesus is a descendant of David, by adoption through Joseph, and by blood through Mary. Primarily though, when Christ was referred to as the Son of David, it was meant to refer to His Messianic title as the Old Testament prophesied concerning Him.

Jesus Christ, the only son of God and the only means of salvation for the world, is also the son of David, both in a physical sense and a spiritual sense.

2.  Jesus keeps on Walking
The blind men call to Jesus while he is walking and he keeps on walking. Then when he gets indoors the blind men keep following him. How long did this happen? It’s impossible to tell but we can see that Jesus isn’t caught up in the urgency of the moment.

3. No offence
The blind men don’t get offended at Jesus for walking away from them.

4. A question & an Answer
Jesus then asks the two blind men, “Do you believe I am able to do this?”
The men answer in the affirmative.

5. A touch
Jesus touched their eyes.

6. A phrase
According to your faith will it be done to you.
Jesus gives the faith of the blind men as the reason for their healing.

7. The Results
Their sight was restored

8. The Focus of Jesus
Jesus had his focus on his 12 disciples. He’s not trying to build a big following. If he was he would’ve told the blind men to spread the news far and wide. But he instead told them sternly not to tell what had happened.

Jesus heals the Mute
Matthew 9:32-34
32While they were going out, a man who was demon-possessed and could not talk was brought to Jesus. 33And when the demon was driven out, the man who had been mute spoke. The crowd was amazed and said, "Nothing like this has ever been seen in Israel."
34But the Pharisees said, "It is by the prince of demons that he drives out demons."


1. The Symptoms

Jesus drives out the demon.

Conclusion
Let’s walk in the God ordained and deputized authority we’ve been given in Christ. As we operate in this authority via revelation knowledge I believe, according to the authority of the scriptures, we’ll see healings and deliverances like we’ve never seen before.
This healing and deliverance will facilitate evangelism and we won’t have enough room to contain the people.

17The seventy-two returned with joy and said, "Lord, even the demons submit to us in your name." 18He replied, "I saw Satan fall like lightning from heaven. 19I have given you authority to trample on snakes and scorpions and to overcome all the power of the enemy; nothing will harm you. 20However, do not rejoice that the spirits submit to you, but rejoice that your names are written in heaven."

12I tell you the truth, anyone who has faith in me will do what I have been doing. He will do even greater things than these, because I am going to the Father.

A Dead Girl and a Sick Woman
Mark 5:21-43
 21When Jesus had again crossed over by boat to the other side of the lake, a large crowd gathered around him while he was by the lake. 22Then one of the synagogue rulers, named Jairus, came there. Seeing Jesus, he fell at his feet 23and pleaded earnestly with him, "My little daughter is dying. Please come and put your hands on her so that she will be healed and live." 24So Jesus went with him.    A large crowd followed and pressed around him. 25And a woman was there who had been subject to bleeding for twelve years. 26She had suffered a great deal under the care of many doctors and had spent all she had, yet instead of getting better she grew worse.  27When she heard about Jesus, she came up behind him in the crowd and touched his cloak, 28because she thought, "If I just touch his clothes, I will be healed." 29Immediately her bleeding stopped and she felt in her body that she was freed from her suffering.  30At once Jesus realized that power had gone out from him. He turned around in the crowd and asked, "Who touched my clothes?"
31"You see the people crowding against you," his disciples answered, "and yet you can ask, 'Who touched me?' "32But Jesus kept looking around to see who had done it. 33Then the woman, knowing what had happened to her, came and fell at his feet and, trembling with fear, told him the whole truth.  34He said to her, "Daughter, your faith has healed you. Go in peace and be freed from your suffering."  35While Jesus was still speaking, some men came from the house of Jairus, the synagogue ruler. "Your daughter is dead," they said. "Why bother the teacher any more?"  36Ignoring what they said, Jesus told the synagogue ruler, "Don't be afraid; just believe."  37He did not let anyone follow him except Peter, James and John the brother of James. 38When they came to the home of the synagogue ruler, Jesus saw a commotion, with people crying and wailing loudly. 39He went in and said to them, "Why all this commotion and wailing? The child is not dead but asleep." 40But they laughed at him.  After he put them all out, he took the child's father and mother and the disciples who were with him, and went in where the child was. 41He took her by the hand and said to her, "Talitha koum!" (which means, "Little girl, I say to you, get up!" ). 42Immediately the girl stood up and walked around (she was twelve years old). At this they were completely astonished. 43He gave strict orders not to let anyone know about this, and told them to give her something to eat.

Points of Interest
1. When the kingdom of God is in operation as it’s designed, crowds gather. Some have desperate needs and some want to watch.

2. You see Jairus, a synagogue ruler exhibit subordinate honor in his desperate state. He believes Jesus has a solution to his daughter’s problem and she will be healed if he lays his hands on her. His desperation is heightened due to the gravity of the situation. I believe Jairus has faith for a healing but not for a resurrection. This is similar to the people around Lazarus.

3. The woman, bleeding is ceremonially unclean. She is therefore making everyone else she touches ceremonially unclean. It takes courage to press through the crowd.

4. Her thinking told her, “If you can touch his cloak you will be healed.” These thoughts and her desperation override her sensibilities.

5. She had an inner witness that she’d been healed.

6. Jesus sensed power going out from him.

7. Jesus asks “who touched me?” I believe he didn’t know the answer to the question. I also believe that Jesus was fully God but I believe he chose to empty himself of his “God the Father” properties. When Jesus knew things supernaturally about people he was operating in a word of knowledge gifting.

8.  I’m sure Jesus was interested in who touched him in Faith.
Mark 5:34
34He said to her, "Daughter, your faith has healed you. Go in peace and be freed from your suffering."
Hebrews 11:6
But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.

9. People see physical death as the end. Jesus however ignores the words of the people that come with the bad news and says, “Don't be afraid; just believe.”

10. Jesus only allowed Peter, James and John to come with him when he was going to raise Jairus’s daughter.

11. The world will laugh at the irrational faith minister. What Jesus is about to do defies the “laws” that everyone is familiar with.

12. Jesus is selective of who he allows into the room allowing only the girl, her mother and father and his inner 3 disciples.

13. Jesus doesn’t pray for the girl but...  41He took her by the hand and said to her, "Talitha koum!" (which means, "Little girl, I say to you, get up!" ).

14. The girl is raised from the dead and Jesus gave strict orders not to let anyone know about this.

God awaken our understanding to move and flow in the deputized authority you’ve given to us, increase our faith and your authority in us so we can do the works you did.

Jesus Didn't Pray for Sick People (Part 3)

Jesus Raises a Widow’s Son
Luke 7:11-15
11Soon afterward, Jesus went to a town called Nain, and his disciples and a large crowd went along with him. 12As he approached the town gate, a dead person was being carried out—the only son of his mother, and she was a widow. And a large crowd from the town was with her.
13When the Lord saw her, his heart went out to her and he said, "Don't cry." 14Then he went up and touched the coffin, and those carrying it stood still. He said, "Young man, I say to you, get up!" 15The dead man sat up and began to talk, and Jesus gave him back to his mother.

Some points to consider from the above passage.
  1. The Woman’s Situation is dire. No husband and no children. Her emotional state couldn’t be much lower.
  2. The large crowd could mean that the woman, the son or her deceased husband were popular or that the people of the city had compassion and wanted to show support to the woman.
  3. The woman’s situation touches the heart of the Lord Jesus.  5 Times in the New Testament it’s stated that Jesus is “moved with compassion.”
  4. Obedience to the voice of God and walking in Love are the ways we fulfill the will of God.
  5. Jesus stops the funeral procession with a touch to the coffin and says, “young man, I say to you, get up!”
  6. Notice that Jesus didn’t pray for the dead boy but commanded him to get up.
A Mute Man
Luke 11:14
14Jesus was driving out a demon that was mute. When the demon left, the man who had been mute spoke, and the crowd was amazed.
  1. The nature of the demon effects the man. In this case it effects his ability to speak.
  2. Demons cause health problems and specifically mental health problems.
That doesn’t mean however that if you’ve ever had mental health problems you have or had a demon.


The Healing of a Demon-Possessed Man
Mark 5:1-20
They went across the lake to the region of the Gerasenes.2When Jesus got out of the boat, a man with an evil spirit came from the tombs to meet him. 3This man lived in the tombs, and no one could bind him any more, not even with a chain.
4For he had often been chained hand and foot, but he tore the chains apart and broke the irons on his feet. No one was strong enough to subdue him. 5Night and day among the tombs and in the hills he would cry out and cut himself with stones. 6When he saw Jesus from a distance, he ran and fell on his knees in front of him.
7He shouted at the top of his voice, "What do you want with me, Jesus, Son of the Most High God? Swear to God that you won't torture me!" 8For Jesus had said to him, "Come out of this man, you evil spirit!"
9Then Jesus asked him, "What is your name?“ "My name is Legion," he replied, "for we are many." 10And he begged Jesus again and again not to send them out of the area.
11A large herd of pigs was feeding on the nearby hillside. 12The demons begged Jesus, "Send us among the pigs; allow us to go into them." 13He gave them permission, and the evil spirits came out and went into the pigs. The herd, about two thousand in number, rushed down the steep bank into the lake and were drowned.
14Those tending the pigs ran off and reported this in the town and countryside, and the people went out to see what had happened. 15When they came to Jesus, they saw the man who had been possessed by the legion of demons, sitting there, dressed and in his right mind; and they were afraid. 16Those who had seen it told the people what had happened to the demon-possessed man—and told about the pigs as well.
17Then the people began to plead with Jesus to leave their region.
18As Jesus was getting into the boat, the man who had been demon-possessed begged to go with him. 19Jesus did not let him, but said, "Go home to your family and tell them how much the Lord has done for you, and how he has had mercy on you." 20So the man went away and began to tell in the Decapolis how much Jesus had done for him. And all the people were amazed.
  1. When we are walking in our God prepared authority the demonized people will come/run to us.
  2. Some demonized people have incredible strength.
  3. A demon inhabiting a persons body (soulish realm) can cause mental illness and strange behavior.
  4. Demons can talk through people.
  5. This demon dis-obey’s Jesus and doesn’t come out when He commands it to.
  6. Jesus then asks the Spirit what it’s name is.
  7. A demonized person can have more than 1 spirit, it’s thought that a Roman legion had 6000 soldiers in it. This is a large number of demon spirits.
  8. The Spirit doesn’t want to leave the particular area it’s in.
  9. Pigs can have demons if even for a short time. Apparently there was something appealing about going into a pig before being “out” that the demon’s desired.
  10. The demons caused the pigs to commit suicide. Suicide for a pig is probably a very strange phenomenon.
  11. When the supernatural is in operation people will talk and come and see.
  12. The people were afraid of the man when he was in his right mind? Maybe they did something to him and were afraid of revenge or being found out. Maybe they cast some type of spell on him making him some kind of substitutionary sacrifice and now he’s free causing the retribution to fall on them again? But what I think is that the people were also under the influence of the spirits and the spirits were afraid. Maybe they were just amazed and afraid about what had happened?They pleaded with Jesus to leave their region. Maybe they had demons themselves that didn’t want to be exposed and cast out? Maybe they didn’t want to take another financial loss.
  13. Daniel 10:13But the prince of the Persian kingdom resisted me twenty-one days. Then Michael, one of the chief princes, came to help me, because I was detained there with the king of Persia.
  14. Daniel 10:20  So he said, "Do you know why I have come to you? Soon I will return to fight against the prince of Persia, and when I go, the prince of Greece will come;
  15. Ephesians 6:12  For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.
  16. The first missionary is commissioned to go home but he actually goes through a 10 city region telling about all Jesus did for him.
When People receive a touch from the Lord in deliverance they are motivated from within to do amazing things, overcoming fear and doubt to share about Christ.
