The Brick

A young and successful executive was traveling down a neighborhood street, going a bit too fast in his new Jaguar. He was watching for kids darting out from between parked cars and slowed down when he thought he saw something. As his car passed, no children appeared. Instead, a brick smashed into the Jag's side door! He slammed on the brakes and backed the Jag back to the spot where the brick had been thrown.. The angry driver then jumped out of the car, grabbed the nearest kid and pushed him up against a parked car shouting, 'What was that all about and who are you? Just what the heck are you doing? That's a new car and that brick you threw is going to cost a lot of money. Why did you do it?'

The young boy was apologetic. 'Please, mister...please, I'm sorry but I didn't
know what else to do,' He pleaded. 'I threw the brick because no one else would stop...' With tears dripping down his face and off his chin, the youth pointed to a spot just around a parked car. 'It's my brother, 'he said 'He rolled off the curb and fell out of his wheelchair and I can't lift him up.'

Now sobbing, the boy asked the stunned executive, 'Would you please help me get him back into his wheelchair? He's hurt and he's too heavy for me.'

Moved beyond words, the driver tried to swallow the rapidly swelling lump in his throat. He hurriedly lifted the handicapped boy back into the wheelchair, then took
out a linen handkerchief and dabbed at the fresh scrapes and cuts. A quick look told him everything was going to be okay.. 'Thank you and may God bless you,' the grateful child told the stranger. Too shook up for words, the man simply watched the boy push his wheelchair-bound brother down the sidewalk
toward their home.

It was a long, slow walk back to the Jaguar. The damage was very noticeable, but the driver never bothered to repair the dented side door. He kept the dent there to
remind him of this message: 'Don't go through life so fast that someone has to throw a brick at you to get your attention!' God whispers in our souls and speaks to our hearts. Sometimes when we don't have time to listen, He has to throw a brick at us. It's our choice to listen or not.

Tennessee Football

Forwarded By Tony V. Hammack

This is a statement that was read over the PA system at the football game at Roane County High School, Kingston, Tennessee, by school Principal, Jody McLeod.

"It has always been the custom at Roane County High School football games, to say a prayer and play the National Anthem, to honor God and Country."

Due to a recent ruling by the Supreme Court, I am told that saying a Prayer is a violation of Federal Case Law. As I understand the law at this time, I can use this public facility to approve of sexual perversion and call it "an alternate life style," and if someone is offended, that's OK.

I can use it to condone sexual promiscuity, by dispensing condoms and calling it, "safe sex." If someone is offended, that's OK.

I can even use this public facility to present the merits of killing an unborn baby as a "viable! means of birth control." If someone is offended, no problem...

I can designate a school day as "Earth Day" and involve students in activities to worship religiously and praise the goddess "Mother Earth" and call it "ecology.."

I can use literature, videos and presentations in the classroom that depicts people with strong, traditional Christian convictions as "simple minded" and "ignorant" and call it "enlightenment.."

However, if anyone uses this facility to honor GOD and to ask HIM to Bless this event with safety and good sportsmanship, then Federal Case Law is violated.

This appears to be inconsistent at best, and at worst, diabolical. Apparently, we are to be tolerant of everything and anyone, except GOD and HIS Commandments.

Nevertheless, as a school principal, I frequently ask staff and students to abide by rules with which they do not necessarily agree. For me to do otherwise would be inconsistent at best, and at worst, hypocritical... I suffer from that affliction enough unintentionally. I certainly do not need to add an intentional transgression.

For this reason, I shall "Render unto Caesar that which is Caesar's," and refrain from praying at this time.

"However, if you feel inspired to honor, praise and thank GOD and ask HIM, in the name of JESUS, to Bless this event, please feel free to do so.. As far as I know, that's not against the law----yet."

One by one, the people in the stands bowed their heads, held hands with one another and began to pray.

They prayed in the stands. They prayed in the team huddles. They prayed at the concession stand and they prayed in the Announcer's Box!

The only place they didn't pray was in the Supreme Court of the United States of America- the Seat of "Justice" in the "One Nation, Under GOD."

Somehow, Kingston , Tennessee remembered what so many have forgotten. We are given the freedom OF religion, not the freedom FROM religion. Praise GOD that HIS remnant remains!

Talking Dog for Sale

A guy is driving around the back woods of Arkansas and he sees a sign in front of a broken down shanty-style house: 'Talking Dog For Sale ' He rings the bell and the owner appears and tells him the dog is in the backyard.

The guy goes into the backyard and sees a nice looking Labrador retriever sitting there.

'You talk?' he asks.

'Yep,' the Lab replies.

After the guy recovers from the shock of hearing a dog talk, he says 'So, what's your story?'
The Lab looks up and says, 'Well, I discovered that I could talk when I was pretty young. I wanted to help the government, so I told the CIA. In no time at all they had me jetting from country to country, sitting in rooms with spies and world leaders, because no one figured a dog would be eavesdropping.'
'I was one of their most valuable spies for eight years running. But the jetting around really tired me out, and I knew I wasn't getting any younger so I decided to settle down. I signed up for a job at the airport to do some undercover security, wandering near suspicious characters and listening in. I uncovered some incredible dealings and was awarded a batch of medals.' 'I got married, had a mess of puppies, and now I'm just retired.'

The guy is amazed. He goes back in and asks the owner what he wants for the dog.

'Ten dollars,' the guy says.

'Ten dollars? This dog is amazing! Why on earth are you selling him so cheap?'

'Because he's a liar. He never did any of that.

The Tale of Three Trees

The kids of Jubilee Family Church this April 4th, 2010 ministered to the congregation by performing the childrens musical, "The Tale of Three Trees".

The musical brings to life the traditional story of some trees with a dream and a God with a plan. In this 35- minute presentation, Follow the adventures of Annabelle, who dreams of holding great treasure; Bud, who longs to become a mighty ship; and Gabrielle, who just wants to stay in the forest and point people toward God. Through the eyes of Woody the woodcutter, Stump, who is rooted in puns, and Woodsworth, the tree of knowledge, we are reminded that even when we can't see the forest for the trees, there is no prayer that is too small for God.

The video of our presentation is below.

God Thought It; Jesus Bought It; The Holy Spirit Brought It; Have You Caught It?

God thought it - Redemption

Omniscient - having infinite awareness, understanding, and insight
Omniscient
Psalm 147:4-5
4 He determines the number of the stars and calls them each by name. Great is our Lord and mighty in power; his understanding has no limit.

Isaiah 46:10 Declaring the end from the beginning, and from ancient times the things that are not yet done, saying, My counsel shall stand, and I will do all my pleasure.

God Thought about Redemption
Immediately after the fall of man God is implementing his plan to redeem mankind back to Himself.

Genesis 3:15 The Protevangelim
And I will put enmity between you and the woman, and between your offspring and hers; he will crush your head, and you will strike his heel."

     1. There is a struggle for the souls of men and women
     2. Sin will be judged
     3. Salvation comes only through Christ. The seed of the woman.

Jesus Bought it - Humanity

Jesus paid for your redemption with his broken body

1 Corinthians 6:19,20
You are not your own; 20you were bought at a price. Therefore honor God with your body.

Jesus Bought or Redeemed Us
Redemption – The act of buying back : repurchasing, to get or to win back.
Jesus Offering Himself as the Sacrificial Lamb

Hebrews 4:15
For we do not have a high priest who is unable to sympathize with our weaknesses, but we have one who has been tempted in every way, just as we are—yet was without sin.

Hebrews 9:27,28
27Just as man is destined to die once, and after that to face judgment, 28so Christ was sacrificed once to take away the sins of many people; and he will appear a second time, not to bear sin, but to bring salvation to those who are waiting for him.

Broken Body
1 Corinthians 11:24
24and when he had given thanks, he broke it and said, "This is my body, which is for you; do this in remembrance of me."

Jesus Paid our Sin Debt
Ephesians 1:7
In him we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, in accordance with the riches of God's grace.

Hebrews 9:12
He did not enter by means of the blood of goats and calves; but he entered the Most Holy Place once for all by his own blood, having obtained eternal redemption.

The Holy Spirit Brought It - Power

The Holy Spirit brings us power. The Greek word in the New Testament that means power, dunamis.

Dunamis - dunamis is (a) "power, ability," physical or moral, as residing in a person or thing; (b) "power in action," as, e.g., when put forth in performing miracles. It occurs 118 times in the NT. Sometimes the word dunamis is used to describe the miracle itself.

The Holy Spirit is for You
Acts 2:38,39
38Peter replied, "Repent and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins. And you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. 39The promise is for you and your children and for all who are far off—for all whom the Lord our God will call."

Acts 1:8
But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth."

Romans 15:13
May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.

1 Thessalonians 1:5a
because our gospel came to you not simply with words, but also with power, with the Holy Spirit and with deep conviction.

Have you Caught It? – Righteousness by Faith

Ephesians 2:8
For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God—

Righteousness – To be in a right relationship with God. To live uprightly.

Romans 1:17
For in the gospel a righteousness from God is revealed, a righteousness that is by faith from first to last, just as it is written: "The righteous will live by faith."

Romans 3:21,22
But now a righteousness from God, apart from law, has been made known, to which the Law and the Prophets testify. This righteousness from God comes through faith in Jesus Christ to all who believe.

Romans 4:5
However, to the man who does not work but trusts God who justifies the wicked, his faith is credited as righteousness.

Romans 4:13
It was not through law that Abraham and his offspring received the promise that he would be heir of the world, but through the righteousness that comes by faith.

Romans 9:30
What then shall we say? That the Gentiles, who did not pursue righteousness, have obtained it, a righteousness that is by faith;

Galatians 5:5
But by faith we eagerly await through the Spirit the righteousness for which we hope.

Philippians 3:8,9b
not having a righteousness of my own that comes from the law, but that which is through faith in Christ—the righteousness that comes from God and is by faith.

Hebrews 11:7
By faith Noah, when warned about things not yet seen, in holy fear built an ark to save his family. By his faith he condemned the world and became heir of the righteousness that comes by faith.

Have You Caught It?

The Bible teaches in Romans 3:23 that all have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God.

The penalty for sin is not only physical death but spiritual death. Romans 6:23 says, “the wages of sin is death”.

The rest of Romans 6:23 says, “but the gift of God is eternal life.”

Romans 5:8 says, "But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.“
Jesus Christ died for us! Jesus' death paid the price of our sins.

Romans 10:9 says, "that if you confess with your mouth Jesus as Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved.“

Because of Jesus' death on our behalf, all we have to do is believe in Him, trusting His death as the payment for our sins - and we will be saved!

Romans 10:13 says it again this way, "for everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved."

Jesus died to pay the penalty for our sins and rescue us from eternal death. Salvation, the forgiveness of sins, is available to anyone who will trust in Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior.

Romans 5:1 has this wonderful message,
"Therefore, since we have been justified through faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ."

Romans 8:1 teaches us, "Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus.“
Because of Jesus' death on our behalf, we will never be condemned for our sins.

Finally, we have this precious promise of God from Romans 8:38-39,
"For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord."

Maybe today you’d like to make sure you’re in right relationship with your creator. I would like everyone to repeat after me if you are a Christian or if you’d like to make sure you’re in right relationship with the Lord Jesus.
Maybe you want to make sure you’re going to heaven. Repeat after me &; Pray this simple prayer with me from your heart.

Lord Jesus, I need you. Thank you for dying on the cross for my sins. I open the door of my life and receive You as my personal Savior and Lord. I confess with my mouth that You are Lord and believe in my heart that God raised you from the dead. Thank you for forgiving my sins and giving me eternal life. Take control of the throne of my life. Make me the kind of person You want me to be. In Jesus name, AMEN!

The Blood of Christ Speaks (Part 2)

By Tony V. Hammack

Jesus’ Blood Speaks

Hebrews 12:22-24
22But you have come to Mount Zion, to the heavenly Jerusalem, the city of the living God. You have come to thousands upon thousands of angels in joyful assembly, 23to the church of the firstborn, whose names are written in heaven. You have come to God, the judge of all men, to the spirits of righteous men made perfect, 24to Jesus the mediator of a new covenant, and to the sprinkled blood that speaks a better word than the blood of Abel.

The Blood of Christ Speaks…
  1. You have been justified.
  2. You are redeemed.
  3. You have peace with God.
  4. You are Holy.
  5. You have the promise of being equipped.
  6. Your conscience is cleansed.
  7. You are washed.
  8. You have victory.
5. You Have the Promise of being Equipped
Hebrews 13:20-21
20May the God of peace, who through the blood of the eternal covenant brought back from the dead our Lord Jesus, that great Shepherd of the sheep, 21equip you with everything good for doing his will, and may he work in us what is pleasing to him, through Jesus Christ, to whom be glory for ever and ever. Amen.

   A.  Knowing God’s Will
Romans 12:2 Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God's will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will.
   B.  God’s Will
2 Corinthians 8:5 And they did not do as we expected, but they gave themselves first to the Lord and then to us in keeping with God's will.
      1.  Give Yourself to the Lord
      2.  Give Yourself to the Human Authority
   C.  God’s Will
1 Thessalonians 4:3 It is God's will that you should be sanctified: that you should avoid sexual immorality;

Sanctified - 1 : to set apart to a sacred purpose or to religious use : consecrate 2 : to free from sin : purify 3 a : to impart or impute sacredness, inviolability, or respect to b : to give moral or social sanction to.
   D.  God’s Will
1 Thessalonians 5:18 give thanks in all circumstances, for this is God's will for you in Christ Jesus.
   E.  God’s Will
1 Peter 2:15 For it is God's will that by doing good you should silence the ignorant talk of foolish men.
   F.  God’s Equipping
2 Peter 1:3-11  3His divine power has given us everything we need for life and godliness through our knowledge of him who called us by his own glory and goodness. 4Through these he has given us his very great and precious promises, so that through them you may participate in the divine nature and escape the corruption in the world caused by evil desires.  5For this very reason, make every effort to add to your faith goodness; and to goodness, knowledge; 6and to knowledge, self-control; and to self-control, perseverance; and to perseverance, godliness;  7and to godliness, brotherly kindness; and to brotherly kindness, love. 8For if you possess these qualities in increasing measure, they will keep you from being ineffective and unproductive in your knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ.  9But if anyone does not have them, he is nearsighted and blind, and has forgotten that he has been cleansed from his past sins. 10Therefore, my brothers, be all the more eager to make your calling and election sure. For if you do these things, you will never fall, 11and you will receive a rich welcome into the eternal kingdom of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

6. Your Conscience is Cleansed
Hebrews 9:14  How much more, then, will the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered himself unblemished to God, cleanse our consciences from acts that lead to death, so that we may serve the living God!

Conscience - the sense or consciousness of the moral goodness or blameworthiness of one's own conduct, intentions, or character together with a feeling of obligation to do right or be good.

   1. A conscience that’s not cleansed causes a person to commit acts that lead to death. Seeing yourself as a Child of a Holy God will change the choices you make.  Identity is huge.

Romans 6:23 For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.

   2. A conscience that’s not cleansed can’t serve the Living God.

Hebrews 10:22 let us draw near to God with a sincere heart in full assurance of faith, having our hearts sprinkled to cleanse us from a guilty conscience and having our bodies washed with pure water.

7. You are Washed
Revelation 7:15 And he said, "These are they who have come out of the great tribulation; they have washed their robes and made them white in the blood of the Lamb. Therefore, "they are before the throne of God and serve him day and night in his temple; and he who sits on the throne will spread his tent over them.

8. You Have Victory
1 John 5:4b-6
This is the victory that has overcome the world, even our faith. 5Who is it that overcomes the world? Only he who believes that Jesus is the Son of God.  6This is the one who came by water and blood—Jesus Christ. He did not come by water only, but by water and blood. And it is the Spirit who testifies, because the Spirit is the truth.

Overcoming power is opened to us through faith. Faith that Jesus is the Son of God. Believing God’s word over the circumstances of life will cause a person to have victory.

The Blood of Christ Speaks (Part 1)

by Tony Hammack

These notes are best when used in conjunction with the audio or video. Click here for the audio. Click here for the video.

Abel’s Blood Cried Out
Genesis 4:10 The LORD said, "What have you done? Listen! Your brother's blood cries out to me from the ground.

  6. You are cleansed.
  7. You are washed.
  8. You have victory.
1. You are Justified
Romans 5:9 Since we have now been justified by his blood, how much more shall we be saved from God's wrath through him!

The Blood of Christ cries out, You are justified.
You are not guilty, you’ve been acquitted in the heavenly court, you’re debt has been paid by the blood of Christ. Just as if you’ve never sinned.

Romans 3:28 For we maintain that a man is justified by faith apart from observing the law.

Our justification comes by faith, not from observing the law. This is the same way Abraham was credited with righteousness; right standing with God.

Romans 3:24 and are justified freely by his grace through the redemption that came by Christ Jesus.

God’s grace justifies us, paying our sin debt for us. This grace put’s us into right relationship with God as we believe on Jesus Christ by faith.

Ephesians 2:8,9
8For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God— 9not by works, so that no one can boast.

2. You are Redeemed
Ephesians 1:7
In him we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, in accordance with the riches of God's grace
  • Redemption - 1 a : to buy back : repurchase b : to get or win back b : to extricate from or help to overcome something detrimental c : to release from blame or debt : to clear d : to free from the consequences of sin.
1 Peter 1:18-19
18For you know that it was not with perishable things such as silver or gold that you were redeemed from the empty way of life handed down to you from your forefathers, 19but with the precious blood of Christ, a lamb without blemish or defect.

Redeemed from what?
Galatians 3:13-14
13Christ redeemed us from the curse of the law by becoming a curse for us, for it is written: "Cursed is everyone who is hung on a tree."[a] 14He redeemed us in order that the blessing given to Abraham might come to the Gentiles through Christ Jesus, so that by faith we might receive the promise of the Spirit.

A.)  Blessings given to Abraham as well as the B.)  promise of the Spirit are the believers through faith in Christ Jesus.

A.)  Blessings

Deuteronomy 28
3 You will be blessed in the city and blessed in the country. 4 The fruit of your womb will be blessed, and the crops of your land and the young of your livestock—the calves of your herds and the lambs of your flocks. 5 Your basket and your kneading trough will be blessed. 6 You will be blessed when you come in and blessed when you go out.  7 The LORD will grant that the enemies who rise up against you will be defeated before you. They will come at you from one direction but flee from you in seven. 8 The LORD will send a blessing on your barns and on everything you put your hand to. The LORD your God will bless you in the land he is giving you. 9 The LORD will establish you as his holy people, as he promised you on oath, if you keep the commands of the LORD your God and walk in his ways. 10 Then all the peoples on earth will see that you are called by the name of the LORD, and they will fear you.  11 The LORD will grant you abundant prosperity—in the fruit of your womb, the young of your livestock and the crops of your ground—in the land he swore to your forefathers to give you. 12 The LORD will open the heavens, the storehouse of his bounty, to send rain on your land in season and to bless all the work of your hands. You will lend to many nations but will borrow from none. 13 The LORD will make you the head, not the tail. If you pay attention to the commands of the LORD your God that I give you this day and carefully follow them, you will always be at the top, never at the bottom.

B.)  The Promise of the Spirit
Acts 2:33 Exalted to the right hand of God, he has received from the Father the promised Holy Spirit and has poured out what you now see and hear.

3. You have Peace with God
Colossians 1:19,20
19For God was pleased to have all his fullness dwell in him, 20and through him to reconcile to himself all things, whether things on earth or things in heaven, by making peace through his blood, shed on the cross.

Romans 5:1 Therefore, since we have been justified through faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ,

The Gospel message is good news. It’s allowed us to overcome the Law with it’s futility toward victorious living and given us peace with God. The peace is established by God and received by faith.

4. You are Holy
Hebrews 13:12
12And so Jesus also suffered outside the city gate to make the people holy through his own blood.

Holiness
(a) separation to God, (b) the resultant state, the conduct befitting those so separated. “Holiness" is thus the state predetermined by God for believers, into which in grace He calls them, and in which they begin their Christian course and so pursue it. Hence they are called "saints“.

Holiness Comes from the Blood
Your holiness is due to Christ’s shed blood not your behavior. However your behavior will line up with the fact that you are washed and cleansed by the blood of Christ.

Mercy

By Tony V. Hammack

These notes are best when used in conjunction with the audio or video.  Click here to listen to this dynamic message on mercy or click here to watch the video.

James 2:13 …judgment without mercy will be shown to anyone who has not been merciful. Mercy triumphs over judgment!

The Prayer Prayed in Public Schools Until June 25, 1962.
“Almighty God, we acknowledge our dependence upon Thee, and we beg Thy blessings upon us, our parents, our teachers, and our country.”
This prayer is a cry for the mercy of God.

Mercy - : compassion or forbearance shown especially to an offender or to one subject to one's power; mercy also means lenient or compassionate treatment.

Luke 6:32-38
32"If you love those who love you, what credit is that to you? Even 'sinners' love those who love them. 33And if you do good to those who are good to you, what credit is that to you? Even 'sinners' do that. 34And if you lend to those from whom you expect repayment, what credit is that to you? Even 'sinners' lend to 'sinners,' expecting to be repaid in full.  35But love your enemies, do good to them, and lend to them without expecting to get anything back. Then your reward will be great, and you will be sons of the Most High, because he is kind to the ungrateful and wicked. 36Be merciful, just as your Father is merciful.  37"Do not judge, and you will not be judged. Do not condemn, and you will not be condemned. Forgive, and you will be forgiven. 38Give, and it will be given to you. A good measure, pressed down, shaken together and running over, will be poured into your lap. For with the measure you use, it will be measured to you."

Nice but Normal
1. To love someone who loves you is human.
2. To do good to someone who does good to you is human.
3. Loaning money to someone who can pay you back is human.
Divine Behavior
4. Loving, doing good and giving money to your enemy is divine.
5. When we love the unlovable, do good to the evil and give money to those that can’t pay us back we have a great reward and demonstrate that we are truly Sons of God.
6. When we are in a life receiving relationship with Jesus Christ we will act like him more and more as we draw more and more life from him.
7. With the measure of mercy we extend to others who don’t “deserve” it, we ourselves will receive mercy from God.
  • 3 Types of Relationships
    • Take
    • Give and Take
    • Give
We all, at one time or another were takers. In order to have something to give others we must receive. However this isn’t the ultimate position we are to stay in. It’s a phase of development into maturity.

When a Child acts like a child it’s difficult but there’s an understanding that the child is developing and growing, it’s understood and accepted.
However when an adult behaves like a child it’s generally frowned upon. Sometimes this happens simply because this adult as a child missed something.

Give and take – I feel like the best illustration for the give and take relationships that Jesus is talking about in Luke 6 would be represented by the business world. “You scratch my back and I’ll scratch yours.”

1. To love someone who loves you is human, easily accomplished by sinful people every day.
Luke 6:32
"If you love those who love you, what credit is that to you? Even 'sinners' love those who love them.

Many lustful relationships are built upon this paradigm of thinking and living.
However just stop adding energy or life into the relationship and you’ll see it unravel.

2. To do good to someone who does good to you is human.
Luke 6:33
And if you do good to those who are good to you, what credit is that to you? Even 'sinners' do that.
Again the illustration here would be a business relationship.

3. Loaning money to someone who can pay you back is human.
Luke 6:34
And if you lend to those from whom you expect repayment, what credit is that to you? Even 'sinners' lend to 'sinners,' expecting to be repaid in full.

4. Loving, doing good and giving money to your enemy is divine.
Luke 6:35,36
But love your enemies, do good to them, and lend to them without expecting to get anything back. Then your reward will be great, and you will be sons of the Most High, because he is kind to the ungrateful and wicked. 36Be merciful, just as your Father is merciful.

The relationships that are truly divinely motivated and sustained are the relationships where you are on the giving end and there is no receiving in sight for your sacrifice. These relationships prove and demonstrate that you are truly a son or daughter of God.

Loving and caring for a spouse who’s been bed ridden for years while remaining faithful in mind, heart and action. DIVINE!

Staying in a marriage where you are not in “love”. Working it out together. DIVINE

Giving resources or help to someone who doesn’t appreciate it or won’t be able to pay you back. DIVINE

5. When we love the unlovable, do good to the evil and give money to those that can’t pay us back we have a great reward and demonstrate that we are truly Sons of God.

This is a very un-natural reaction or behavior however it is very natural if we’re plugged into a supernatural God.

2 Corinthians 3:18 And we, who with unveiled faces all reflect the Lord's glory, are being transformed into his likeness with ever-increasing glory, which comes from the Lord, who is the Spirit.

6. When we are in a life receiving relationship with Jesus Christ we will act like him more and more as we draw more and more life from him.

John 15:4,5
4Remain in me, and I will remain in you. No branch can bear fruit by itself; it must remain in the vine. Neither can you bear fruit unless you remain in me.  5"I am the vine; you are the branches. If a man remains in me and I in him, he will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing.

7. With the measure of mercy we extend to others who don’t “deserve” it, we ourselves will receive mercy from God.

Mercy comes originally from God, we extend it to others which causes more mercy to come from God. When we extend that to others it continues the process over and over again causing us to be agents of change.

In a world of hostility, we can open a spiritual floodgate by loving.  In a world that keeps score and settles resentment with vindictiveness, we can open a spiritual floodgate by forgiving. In a world where ‘what is mine is mine’ we can open a spiritual floodgate by giving to others freely. We can always wait for someone else to pick up the ball and get things started. But we know that the world is not going to become a loving place, a forgiving place, a giving place, except that we actually do it.

Does anyone want God’s Wrath?
Then we must cry out for mercy and extend mercy!
Matthew 18:32-35
32"Then the master called the servant in. 'You wicked servant,' he said, 'I canceled all that debt of yours because you begged me to. 33Shouldn't you have had mercy on your fellow servant just as I had on you?' 34In anger his master turned him over to the jailers to be tortured, until he should pay back all he owed.
35"This is how my heavenly Father will treat each of you unless you forgive your brother from your heart."

Consider today the position of your heart toward people who have hurt you or are against you.  Receive mercy from God and extend mercy to them.  It will change the world one person at a time.

Tithing

Once upon a time there was a man who had nothing. God gave him ten apples. God gave the first three apples to eat. God gave him three more apples to trade for shelter from the heat in the summer and the cold in the winter. Then God gave the man three more apples to trade for clothing to wear. The last apple God gave so the man might have something to give back to God to express his great gladness and gratitude at such divine provision. But this tenth apple looked so luscious, and the man reasoned that God owned all the other apples in the world and how could God miss this one measly apple, so he ate the tenth apple, and gave back to God the core.’

Overcoming Adversity

By Tony V. Hammack

These notes are best when used in conjunction with the audio or video of this message. Please click here for the audio or click here for part 1 of the video and click here for part 2 of the video.

Look at the picture to the left and consider the statement in the upper right hand corner.  "Adversity introduces a man to himself."  Consider if you believe this statement to be true and why or why not.

Proverbs 24:10 If you falter in times of trouble, how small is your strength!

Where’s the adversity your dealing with coming from?  Is it God, the Devil, others, or self?

When dealing with adversity sometimes you will have to wait for it to pass, you may have to go over it, under it, around it or perhaps through it.

Adversity is always either a stumbling block or a stepping stone.  Which one it is for you generally depends on your attitude.

Consider what Judas did to Jesus.
In one sense of the word what Judas did could’ve crushed the majority of people. They never would’ve been able to recover from such a betrayal.  However for Jesus, Judas was simply the unwitting person that kicked Jesus into his ultimate destiny.

Key’s to Triumphing over Adversity
  1. Pray – find the will of God for your situation.
  2. Read –find a scripture to “hang your hat on” for your situation.
  3. Counsel – Seek GODLY counsel from someone you admire/respect in the spirit.
  4. Listen / Meditate / Speak the Word – When God speaks and you have a word listen to it by meditation and confession.
  5. Stand – When God’s spoken to your heart and you have a word from heaven then stand and believe.
1. Pray
Luke 22:39-44
39Jesus went out as usual to the Mount of Olives, and his disciples followed him. 40On reaching the place, he said to them, "Pray that you will not fall into temptation." 41He withdrew about a stone's throw beyond them, knelt down and prayed,  42"Father, if you are willing, take this cup from me; yet not my will, but yours be done." 43An angel from heaven appeared to him and strengthened him. 44And being in anguish, he prayed more earnestly, and his sweat was like drops of blood falling to the ground.

Luke 5:16
But Jesus often withdrew to lonely places and prayed.

2. Read
Find a scripture to identify with your specific situation.
  • Sickness
  • Sorrow
  • Financial Distress
  • Bondage

  • Sickness
Psalm 118:17
I will not die but live, and will proclaim what the LORD has done.

Acts 10:38
how God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and power, and how he went around doing good and healing all who were under the power of the devil, because God was with him.

  • Sorrow
Galatians 5:22
But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness,

Isaiah 61:3
and provide for those who grieve in Zion— to bestow on them a crown of beauty instead of ashes, the oil of gladness instead of mourning, and a garment of praise instead of a spirit of despair. They will be called oaks of righteousness, a planting of the LORD for the display of his splendor.

  • Financial Distress
Malachi 3:10
Bring the whole tithe into the storehouse, that there may be food in my house. Test me in this," says the LORD Almighty, "and see if I will not throw open the floodgates of heaven and pour out so much blessing that you will not have room enough for it.

Luke 6:38
38Give, and it will be given to you. A good measure, pressed down, shaken together and running over, will be poured into your lap. For with the measure you use, it will be measured to you."

  • Bondage
Psalm 118:5
5 In my anguish I cried to the LORD, and he answered by setting me free.

John 8:31,32
31To the Jews who had believed him, Jesus said, "If you hold to my teaching, you are really my disciples. 32Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free."

Romans 6
14For sin shall not be your master, because you are not under law, but under grace.

3. Counsel
Proverbs 11:14
Where no counsel is, the people fall: but in the multitude of counsellors there is safety.

Proverbs 13:20 He who walks with the wise grows wise, but a companion of fools suffers harm.

4. Listen / Meditate / Speak the Word
Joshua 1:8
Do not let this Book of the Law depart from your mouth; meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do everything written in it. Then you will be prosperous and successful.

Mark 11:23
"I tell you the truth, if anyone says to this mountain, 'Go, throw yourself into the sea,' and does not doubt in his heart but believes that what he says will happen, it will be done for him.

5. Stand
An example from the Old Testament
Exodus 14:13 Moses answered the people, "Do not be afraid. Stand firm and you will see the deliverance the LORD will bring you today. The Egyptians you see today you will never see again.

Ephesians 6:13,14a
13Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand. 14Stand firm then,

Let’s approach God today in conclusion for the wisdom, grace and strength to convert our adversities into stepping stones!

Learning Obedience

By looking into the Loving eyes of Jesus

Love for God
John 14:15
"If you love me, you will obey what I command.
  • Keys to Obedience
    • Receiving Love
    • Trusting
    • Self Denial (Brings glory to the master)
Jesus is our High Priest
Hebrews 4:14-16
14Therefore, since we have a great high priest who has gone through the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold firmly to the faith we profess. 15For we do not have a high priest who is unable to sympathize with our weaknesses, but we have one who has been tempted in every way, just as we are—yet was without sin. 16Let us then approach the throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need.

Due to the position of Jesus we should hold firmly to our faith.  Jesus has been there and understands all our human weaknesses.  Understanding these things we need to approach God with boldness and confidence in order to receive what we need, primarily grace and mercy.

Mercy is not getting what we do deserve, judgment.
Grace is getting what we don’t deserve, power to overcome the enemy, the world system and the flesh. All of heaven’s blessings.

1. Receiving Love
Position
We as God’s people must learn to position ourselves to receive the Love of God. This is a heart condition and is learned through experience. When we wear a path to the throne room of grace we learn where the life of God flows from.

Practical Ways to Receive the Love of God
  1. Read the Word
  2. Pray
  3. Worship the Lord in Song
  4. Attend Church
  5. Attend a Life Group
  6. Fellowship with a Christian friend

1.  Read the Word
Psalm 119:11
11 I have hidden your word in my heart that I might not sin against you.

The Word of God is His Heart to Us
Matthew 12:34
For out of the overflow of the heart the mouth speaks.

Hebrews 4:12
12For the word of God is living and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart.

Matthew 5:18
I tell you the truth, until heaven and earth disappear, not the smallest letter, not the least stroke of a pen, will by any means disappear from the Law until everything is accomplished.

2.  Pray
Hebrews 5:7 (Amplified Bible)
In the days of His flesh [Jesus] offered up definite, special petitions [for that which He not only wanted but needed] and supplications with strong crying and tears to Him Who was [always] able to save Him [out] from death, and He was heard because of His reverence toward God [His godly fear, His piety, in that He shrank from the horrors of separation from the bright presence of the Father].

The Hardest thing for Jesus
Mark 15:34 (New International Version)
34And at the ninth hour Jesus cried out in a loud voice, "Eloi, Eloi, lama sabachthani?"—which means, "My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?"

3.  Jesus Learning Obedience
Hebrews 5:8
Although he was a son, he learned obedience from what he suffered

4.  Worship
Ephesians 5:19
Speaking to yourselves in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord;
Psalm 33:2
Praise the LORD with harp: sing unto him with the psaltery and an instrument of ten strings.

Psalm 33:3
Sing unto him a new song; play skillfully with a loud noise.

5.  Attend Church/Life Groups
Matthew 18:20
For where two or three are gathered together in my name, there am I in the midst of them.

Hebrews 10:25
Let us not give up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but let us encourage one another—and all the more as you see the Day approaching.

6.  Fellowship with a Christian Friend
1 John 1:7
But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus, his Son, purifies us from all sin.

Koinonia

Introduction:
Every believer needs a place where they can ask specific questions and get specific answers.  We all need to be able to connect in relationships with other Christians or we won’t mature.

Koinonia means to have in common partnership, to share, fellowship and contribute.

Koinonia
  1. Sharing
  2. Fellowship
  3. Contribution
1.  Koinonia translated Share
Hebrews 13:16
And do not forget to do good and to share with others, for with such sacrifices God is pleased.

1 Timothy 6:18 (KJV)
18Command them to do good, to be rich in good deeds, and to be generous and willing to share.

2.  Koinonia translated Fellowship
1 Corinthians 1:9
9God, who has called you into fellowship with his Son Jesus Christ our Lord, is faithful.

Acts 2:42
They devoted themselves to the apostles' teaching and to the fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to prayer.

Galatians 2:9
9James, Peter and John, those reputed to be pillars, gave me and Barnabas the right hand of fellowship when they recognized the grace given to me. They agreed that we should go to the Gentiles, and they to the Jews.

3.  Koinonia translated Contribution
Romans 15:26
For Macedonia and Achaia were pleased to make a contribution for the poor among the saints in Jerusalem.

2 Corinthians 9:13 (NASB)
13Because of the proof given by this ministry, they will glorify God for your obedience to your confession of the gospel of Christ and for the liberality of your contribution to them and to all,

Body:
8 Benefits to being a part of a Life Group
  1. Expression of grace gifts
  2. Accountability
  3. They are Fun
  4. Discipleship Happens
  5. Leadership Development
  6. The Jethro Principle
  7. Synergy
  8. Friendships

1. Expression of Grace Gifts
Life groups give the Christian an opportunity to communicate with other members of the body of Christ and release the ministry gifts that God has given them.
1 Corinthians 12:27
Now you are the body of Christ, and each one of you is a part of it.
1 Peter 4:10
Each one should use whatever gift he has received to serve others, faithfully administering God's grace in its various forms.

2. Accountability
Sharing your life with others causes the light of accountability to shine into everyone’s heart.
1 John 1:7 But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship (koinonia) with one another, and the blood of Jesus, his Son, purifies us from all sin.
1 John 2:9,10 Anyone who claims to be in the light but hates his brother is still in the darkness. Whoever loves his brother lives in the light, and there is nothing in him to make him stumble.

3. They are Fun
Proverbs 17:22 A cheerful heart is good medicine, but a crushed spirit dries up the bones.
Nehemiah 8:10b Do not grieve, for the joy of the LORD is your strength."

4. Discipleship Happens
Matthew 28:19 Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit,
2 Timothy 2:2  And the things you have heard me say in the presence of many witnesses entrust to reliable men who will also be qualified to teach others.
   A.  Paul
   B.  Timothy
   C.  Reliable Men
   D.  Others

5. Leadership Development Happens
"I hear and I forget. I see and I remember. I do and I understand." – Confucius

A popular quote by William Glasser says “We learn… 10 percent of what we read, 20 percent of what we hear, 30 percent of what we see, 50 percent of what we see and hear, 70 percent of what we discuss with others, 80 percent of what we experience, and 95 percent of what we teach to someone.”  The percentages might be somewhat off, but they are close enough to actual values to internalize this information for future learning.

6. The Jethro Principle
Exodus 18:17-26
17 Moses' father-in-law replied, "What you are doing is not good. 18 You and these people who come to you will only wear yourselves out. The work is too heavy for you; you cannot handle it alone. 19 Listen now to me and I will give you some advice, and may God be with you. You must be the people's representative before God and bring their disputes to him.  20 Teach them the decrees and laws, and show them the way to live and the duties they are to perform. 21 But select capable men from all the people—men who fear God, trustworthy men who hate dishonest gain—and appoint them as officials over thousands, hundreds, fifties and tens.  22 Have them serve as judges for the people at all times, but have them bring every difficult case to you; the simple cases they can decide themselves. That will make your load lighter, because they will share it with you. 23 If you do this and God so commands, you will be able to stand the strain, and all these people will go home satisfied."  24 Moses listened to his father-in-law and did everything he said. 25 He chose capable men from all Israel and made them leaders of the people, officials over thousands, hundreds, fifties and tens. 26 They served as judges for the people at all times. The difficult cases they brought to Moses, but the simple ones they decided themselves.

7. Synergy
Synergism - interaction of people so that the total effect is greater than the sum of the individual effects.
The people in your life group can bring the best out in you and actually take you to a higher level than you could reach on your own.

8. Friendships
You can get closer to the people in your life group due to the content and honesty that goes on. This creates an environment where close friendships can be established.

Do Barbers Exist?

This is a great explanation on the nature of God...

A man went to a barbershop to have his hair cut and his beard trimmed. As the barber began to work, they began to have a good conversation. They talked about so many things and various subjects. When they eventually touched on the subject of God, the barber said: 'I don't believe that God exists.'

'Why do you say that?' asked the customer. 'Well, you just have to go out in the street to realize that God doesn't exist.

Tell me, if God exists, would there be so many sick people? Would there be abandoned children?

If God existed, there would be neither suffering nor pain.

I can't imagine a loving God who would allow all of these things.'

The customer thought for a moment, but didn't respond because he didn't want to start an argument.

The barber finished his job and the customer left the shop.

Just after he left the barbershop, he saw a man in the street with long, stringy, dirty hair and an untrimmed beard.

He looked dirty and unkempt. The customer turned back and entered the barber shop again and he said to the barber:

'You know what? Barbers do not exist.'

'How can you say that?' asked the surprised barber. 'I am here, and I am a barber. And I just worked on you!'

'No!' the customer exclaimed. 'Barbers don't exist because if they did, there would be no people with dirty long hair and untrimmed beards, like that man outside.'

'Ah, but barbers DO exist! That's what happens when people do not come to me.'

Exactly!' affirmed the customer.

The Power of the Tongue

Life and Death

Proverbs 18:21
The tongue has the power of life and death, and those who love it will eat its fruit.

Psalm 19:14 May the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be pleasing in your sight, O LORD, my Rock and my Redeemer.

Jesus Spoke in Faith to Situations
Jesus Operated in the faith principles found in Mark 11:23 and Matthew 17:20 while on the Earth.

Mark 11:23
23"I tell you the truth, if anyone says to this mountain, 'Go, throw yourself into the sea,' and does not doubt in his heart but believes that what he says will happen, it will be done for him.

Matthew 17:20
20He replied, "Because you have so little faith. I tell you the truth, if you have faith as small as a mustard seed, you can say to this mountain, 'Move from here to there' and it will move. Nothing will be impossible for you."

Jesus spoke to demons, to sick people, to storms, to trees, even to the dead. As he spoke to them in faith they responded to his faith and authority.

We're called to be like Jesus
Ephesians 5:1
1Be imitators of God, therefore, as dearly loved children
This faith and authority isn’t just for Jesus, it's for us also, look at the amazing truth below in John 14:12
John 14:12
12I tell you the truth, anyone who has faith in me will do what I have been doing. He will do even greater things than these, because I am going to the Father.

The Apostles flow in faith and speak to situations
Acts 3:4-7
4Peter looked straight at him, as did John. Then Peter said, "Look at us!" 5So the man gave them his attention, expecting to get something from them.  6Then Peter said, "Silver or gold I do not have, but what I have I give you. In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, walk." 7Taking him by the right hand, he helped him up, and instantly the man's feet and ankles became strong.

Today
Amazingly Jesus has told us we can have what we say, if we say it in faith. (Mark 11:23) but our meditation and speech is on what we have, our circumstances.

As long as you say what you have you will have what you say. However, you can have what you say if you learn to release faith from the heart in your words.
Matthew 8:13
13Then Jesus said to the centurion, "Go! It will be done just as you believed it would." And his servant was healed at that very hour.

The Word of God conceived in the human heart and then spoken in faith has amazing power to shift things into proper heavenly alignment.

The Devil is a defeated foe but still operates where He’s not challenged.

Colossians 2:15
15And having disarmed the powers and authorities, he made a public spectacle of them, triumphing over them by the cross.

Words can create faith like faith creates words. If you don’t have faith find a scripture and begin to declare that word over your life until faith is birthed in your heart. Then when you speak the word with faith you will see God move in the miraculous.

Faith can move mountains in any area of life. However let’s take a look at the area of identity. Who you are in Christ.

People have all kinds of ideas and tend to believe all kinds of lies about themselves as it relates to their identity in Christ. The following scriptures should help a person walk in victory of a false self image.

One of the enemies tactics is to get us to believe lies about ourselves.

1 Peter 5:8 Be self-controlled and alert. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour.

Scriptures to help you understand

I am faithful (Ephesians 1:1)
I am God's child (John 1:12)
I have been justified (Romans 5:1)
I am Christ's friend (John 15:15)
I belong to God (1 Corinthians 6:20)

Just Stay

A nurse took the tired, anxious serviceman to the bedside.

"Your son is here," she said to the old man. She had to repeat the words several times before the patient's eyes opened.

Heavily sedated because of the pain of his heart attack, he dimly saw the young uniformed Marine standing outside the oxygen tent. He reached out his hand. The Marine wrapped his toughened fingers around the old man's limp ones, squeezing a message of love and encouragement.

The nurse brought a chair so that the Marine could sit beside the bed. All through the night the young Marine sat there in the poorly lighted ward, holding the old man's hand and offering him words of love and strength. Occasionally, the nurse suggested that the Marine move away and rest awhile.

He refused. Whenever the nurse came into the ward, the Marine was oblivious of her and of the night noises of the hospital - the clanking of the oxygen tank, the laughter of the night staff members exchanging greetings, the cries and moans of the other patients.

Now and then she heard him say a few gentle words. The dying man said nothing, only held tightly to his son all through the night.

Along towards dawn, the old man died. The Marine released the now lifeless hand he had been holding and went to tell the nurse. While she did what she had to do, he waited.

Finally, she returned. She started to offer words of sympathy, but the Marine interrupted her.

"Who was that man?" he asked.

The nurse was startled, "He was your father," she answered.

"No, he wasn't," the Marine replied. "I never saw him before in my life."

"Then why didn't you say something when I took you to him?"

"I knew right away there had been a mistake, but I also knew he needed his son, and his son just wasn't here. When I realized that he was too sick to tell whether or not I was his son, knowing how much he needed me, I stayed." I came here tonight to find a Mr. William Grey. His Son was Killed in Iraq today, and I was sent to inform
him. What was this gentleman's name?

The nurse with tears in her eyes answered,

Mr. William Grey
