The Woman with the Issue of Blood
Matthew 9:20-22
Mark 5:25-34
Luke 8:42-48

Luke 8:42-48
As Jesus was on his way, the crowds almost crushed him. 43And a woman was there who had been subject to bleeding for twelve years, but no one could heal her. 44She came up behind him and touched the edge of his cloak, and immediately her bleeding stopped.
45"Who touched me?" Jesus asked.
When they all denied it, Peter said, "Master, the people are crowding and pressing against you."

46But Jesus said, "Someone touched me; I know that power has gone out from me."
47Then the woman, seeing that she could not go unnoticed, came trembling and fell at his feet. In the presence of all the people, she told why she had touched him and how she had been instantly healed. 48Then he said to her, "Daughter, your faith has healed you. Go in peace."

Points in the Story

1. Jesus is going somewhere else when the miracle takes place. He’s going to the home of a very important person. The synagogue ruler Jairus’s house to pray for his sick daughter.

2. The crowd is listed here in Luke as “crushing”. Meaning everyone else is trying to see something or get something from Jesus.

3. She heard about Jesus and reasoned from what she heard, "If I just touch his clothes, I will be healed.“ The scriptures say specifically that she said to herself.”
This act of “saying to herself” causes her to rise up with courage to reach out to Jesus through the crowd without an appointment for a miracle even though she’s ceremonially unclean.

4. She hasn’t gotten better due to the medical care she’s received but she’s gotten worse!
The Jewish Talmud preserves a record of medicines and treatments prescribed for illnesses of this sort.

Leviticus 15:25
" 'When a woman has a discharge of blood for many days at a time other than her monthly period or has a discharge that continues beyond her period, she will be unclean as long as she has the discharge, just as in the days of her period.

5. The woman is there and has suffered for 12 years and is completely broke due to her medical bills.

6. It appears that she may have snuck up behind Jesus to avoid being noticed.

7. All the faith for this miracle is in the woman. We know this because Jesus was oblivious to the woman until she touched Him. He even states, “Who touched me?” in v. 45.

8. Immediately her bleeding had stopped.

9. Jesus calling her Daughter is the only place in the scriptures where Jesus addresses a anyone as “daughter”.

The Greek word translated “healed” actually is also translated “saved.” Here both physical healing and spiritual salvation are meant. The two also appear together in Mark 2:1-12 (Jesus heals a paralytic)

SOZO is the Greek word for healing, wholeness, recovery and salvation. Healing of the body was not separated by Jesus from healing of the person, to be healed by Jesus was to receive God’s salvation. The verb Sōzein means both “to heal” and “to save”.

Salvation is a future event and is also deliverance from the dominion of sin and Satan; it is freedom to love and serve God now.

Malachi 4:2
But for you who revere my name, the sun of righteousness will rise with healing in its wings.

Application Points

1.If you have a need, don’t let intimidation stop you. Sometimes we see ourselves as insignificant and disqualify ourselves from receiving things from the Lord that are part of the promises of God.

2. Sometimes we have to press through the “crowd” between us and Jesus.
a. Our crowd can be thoughts, doubts, actual people etc.

3. Faith rises with meditation on the person of Jesus and confession of God’s word. This faith defeats fear that would prevent us from stepping out. We also must defeat fear to receive our miracle.

4. Unfortunately sometimes we put more trust in man’s solutions than God’s. When man lets us down and we lose hope in man we often turn to God in desperation. We should turn to God first but sometimes we don’t.

5. Turning to man for the solutions to our problems will cost us money. Turning to God will cost us everything.

6. Reaching out to Jesus even though you are afraid is O.K. just reach out with resolve and determination. The definition of courage is - firmness of mind and will in the face of danger or extreme difficulty. Being afraid but doing it anyway!

7. Faith is the key component in our lives that unlocks the supernatural from God. Faith that is founded upon the will and word of God and causes action on our part. This is the type of faith we need to have also.

8. True faith always moves God to action! If you don’t get your miracle, examine your faith.

9. How you reach out to Jesus is what he will give you. If you receive him as Father then he will call you son/daughter. If you see him as friend then he will receive you as a friend. If you see him as a historical figure than that’s what he will be to you.

New Territory

1 Chronicles 4:10
Jabez cried out to the God of Israel, "Oh, that you would bless me and enlarge my territory! Let your hand be with me, and keep me from harm so that I will be free from pain." And God granted his request.

The Word of the Lord for us at Jubilee Family Church can be broken down into the title.
New Territory

I believe there is new territory in the natural and in the Spirit. I believe if we as a church walk in obedience to God’s voice. We’ll take new territory for the Kingdom of God.
New Territory means new people and new lands.
It means the flow of God’s Spirit is going to be different than what we’ve experienced in the past.

(I’d never experienced Holy Laughter before it happened to me. Some people had problems with it when it was happening.)

Dealing with fear of the Unknown and a lack of familiarity.

We all have patterns we’ve developed over the years that help us define what is ministry but the newness of what God is going to do is going to cause some to say, “We’ve never done it that way before.”

Religious Spirit
Doing it the way we’ve always done it simply because we’ve always done it that way.
It’s human to want to build a shrine around what God is doing in the right now and if he did it 10 years ago there may be a shrine in our hearts about the past right now.

The Experience
Mark 9:2-7
2After six days Jesus took Peter, James and John with him and led them up a high mountain, where they were all alone. There he was transfigured before them. 3His clothes became dazzling white, whiter than anyone in the world could bleach them. 4And there appeared before them Elijah and Moses, who were talking with Jesus.
The Proper Response
5Peter said to Jesus, "Rabbi, it is good for us to be here. Let us put up three shelters—one for you, one for Moses and one for Elijah." 6(He did not know what to say, they were so frightened.)
7Then a cloud appeared and enveloped them, and a voice came from the cloud: "This is my Son, whom I love. Listen to him!"

The Contrast

Building Shelters around the move of God to memorialize it
Or
Listening to the Voice of God

Proper Administration of Growth (Exodus 18)
17 Moses' father-in-law replied, "What you are doing is not good. 18 You and these people who come to you will only wear yourselves out. The work is too heavy for you; you cannot handle it alone. 19 Listen now to me and I will give you some advice, and may God be with you. You must be the people's representative before God and bring their disputes to him.

20 Teach them the decrees and laws, and show them the way to live and the duties they are to perform. 21 But select capable men from all the people—men who fear God, trustworthy men who hate dishonest gain—and appoint them as officials over thousands, hundreds, fifties and tens.

22 Have them serve as judges for the people at all times, but have them bring every difficult case to you; the simple cases they can decide themselves. That will make your load lighter, because they will share it with you. 23 If you do this and God so commands, you will be able to stand the strain, and all these people will go home satisfied."

Before the work becomes too heavy it’d be good if people who are hearing from the Lord about getting involved could find their place of purpose and function in the church and begin to operate in that.

1. Training
If you are interested in getting involved in some component of ministry here let me know and we can set up a time or a series of times to talk and look into training to help prepare you.

2. Qualifications
Capability – you have the capability or the train ability to learn how to handle a certain percentage of a certain ministry.

3. Fear of the Lord – Moses was to select men who feared the Lord.

Proverbs 15:33
The fear of the LORD teaches a man wisdom, and humility comes before honor.

4. Trustworthy – worthy of confidence, dependable.

5. Hate dishonest gain – Men & women who know how to handle their business with integrity. These type of people will handle God’s ministry the same way.

Abilities - People have different levels of ability and character to handle different things. Some can handle more than others. What matters if faithfulness!

Christian Computing

Jesus and Satan were having an on-going argument about who was better on the computer. They had been going at it for days, and frankly God was tired of hearing Satan bicker.

Finally fed up, God said, 'THAT'S IT! I have had enough.. I am going to set up a test that will run for two hours, and from those results, I will judge who does the better job.'

So Satan and Jesus sat down at the keyboards and typed away.

They moused.

They faxed.

They e-mailed.

They e-mailed with attachments.

They downloaded.

They did spreadsheets!

They wrote reports.

They created labels and cards.

They created charts and graphs.

They did some genealogy reports .

They did every job known to man.

Jesus worked with heavenly efficiency and Satan was faster than the underworld.

Then, ten minutes before their time was up, lightning suddenly flashed across the sky, thunder rolled, rain poured, and, of course, the power went off.

Satan stared at his blank screen and screamed every curse word known in the underworld.

Jesus just sighed.

Finally the electricity came back on, and each of them restarted their computers. Satan started searching frantically, screaming:

'It's gone! It's all GONE! 'I lost everything when the power went out!'

Meanwhile, Jesus quietly started printing out all of his files from the past two hours of work. Satan observed this and became irate.

'Wait!' he screamed. 'That's not fair! He cheated! How come he has all his work and I don't have any?'

God just shrugged and said,

JESUS SAVES....

God's Fatherly Discipline

To listen CLICK HERE
To watch CLICK HERE

Discipline – Discipline is training that corrects, molds, or perfects the mental faculties or moral character.

Hebrews 12:5-11
"My son, do not make light of the Lord's discipline,
and do not lose heart when he rebukes you,
6because the Lord disciplines those he loves,
and he punishes everyone he accepts as a son." (Proverbs 3:11,12) 7Endure hardship as discipline; God is treating you as sons. For what son is not disciplined by his father? 8If you are not disciplined (and everyone undergoes discipline), then you are illegitimate children and not true sons. 9Moreover, we have all had human fathers who disciplined us and we respected them for it. How much more should we submit to the Father of our spirits and live! 10Our fathers disciplined us for a little while as they thought best; but God disciplines us for our good, that we may share in his holiness. 11No discipline seems pleasant at the time, but painful. Later on, however, it produces a harvest of righteousness and peace for those who have been trained by it.

A. Two Incorrect Responses to Discipline
  1. Making Light of it
  2. Being Crushed by it

Both responses to discipline show a fragile inner spirit man.

The lack of understanding the loving and accepting heart of the discipliner is the cause for both extreme responses.

As the discipliner we need to communicate our love and acceptance for our children in a way that communicates to them.

5 Ways we can show love and acceptance to our children.

1. Words of affirmation.
2. Acts of service.
3. Quality time.
4. Gifts.
5. Physical touch.

1. Words of Affirmation
Saying, I love you and other encouraging words will build a strong inner person
Saying good job
You look pretty
You are smart
Etc.

2. Acts of Service
Coming along side someone and helping them with whatever they are interested in says, “I Love you and accept you.”
For some people this is the way they understand love.

3. Quality Time
Sometimes our loved ones just need some hang out time. I’ve noticed if we’re going to watch a family movie together, it’s not good enough for me to be in the same room sitting on the couch next to my children while I work on the computer. I have to shut down the computer and pay attention to the movie even though nobody is going to say anything, just laughing together is important.

Sometimes going places together and paying attention to each other is a great way to spend quality time. I’ve noticed that things that aren’t that important can vie for that quality time. Make it a priority to spend quality time with your loved ones.

4. Gifts
God sent his one and only Son Jesus Christ as a gift for us. While we were still sinners Christ died for us. Nothing says I love you like a gift. Some children receive a gift and feel loved and accepted. Especially a well thought out gift.

5. Physical Touch
I believe it’s important for us as parents to touch our children in proper affectionate ways. I like to wrestle with my kids and I think they like it more than I do. It’s one way I say, “I love you.” With a body slam on the bed!
Hugs and kisses, holding hands also. Back scratches and rubs are also good ways to say, “I love you.”

B. The Lords Discipline comes as hardships

I believe the majority of the hardships that come our way are the direct result of cause and effect relationships that are already laws of sowing and reaping.
Every hardship is not necessarily a discipline from the Lord.
God is not standing over you meting out hardships. Your choices, when they are out of God’s will, can bring these hardships due to the laws of sowing and reaping.

Sowing and Reaping
Galatians 6:8

The one who sows to please his sinful nature, from that nature will reap destruction; the one who sows to please the Spirit, from the Spirit will reap eternal life.
The Discerning and Foolish
Proverbs 17:10
10 A rebuke impresses a man of discernment
more than a hundred lashes a fool.
How we respond to the Holy Spirit determines how he disciplines us.

C. God Cares about us so He Disciplines his True Sons
From verse 8 we know that fathers discipline legitimate children. If he didn’t it would mean he didn’t care about their outcome. As it is, God deeply cares about us and desires a relationship with us where we develop into his image and likeness.

True Sons of God
Matthew 5:9
peacemakers will be called sons of God.
Romans 8:14
those who are led by the Spirit of God are sons of God.
Galatians 3:26
You are all sons of God through faith in Christ Jesus,

Romans 8:19
The creation waits in eager expectation for the sons of God to be revealed.

D. The Purpose for God's Discipline

God disciplines us for our good, that we may share in his holiness.
Hebrews 12:14
Make every effort to live in peace with all men and to be holy; without holiness no one will see the Lord.

E. The Results of God’s Discipline

It produces a harvest of righteousness and peace for those who have been trained by it.

In conclusion
Our prayer should be, “Lord Soften My Heart so I can respond to your voice.” If I can hear your voice and obey you I can avoid your discipline.
Dad’s our prayer should be, “Make me the father or grandfather you want me to be.” Help me discipline my children and grand children skillfully and lovingly.
