John 3:34
For the one whom God has sent speaks the words of God, for God gives the Spirit without limit.

Eternal Life

John 3:14-21
14 Just as Moses lifted up the snake in the wilderness, so the Son of Man must be lifted up, 15 that everyone who believes may have eternal life in him.” 16 For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. 17 For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him. 18 Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe stands condemned already because they have not believed in the name of God’s one and only Son. 19 This is the verdict: Light has come into the world, but people loved darkness instead of light because their deeds were evil. 20 Everyone who does evil hates the light, and will not come into the light for fear that their deeds will be exposed. 21 But whoever lives by the truth comes into the light, so that it may be seen plainly that what they have done has been done in the sight of God.

We Must Believe

Believe - who cleaves to Him, trusts Him, and relies on Him Cleave - to adhere firmly, closely, loyally and unwaveringly

Trust - assured reliance on the character, ability, strength, or truth of someone or something one in which confidence is placed

Rely - to be dependent, to have confidence based on knowledge

Love Gives Sacrificially

Because God loved he gave his very best.

He didn’t come to condemn the world but to save the world.

If you don’t believe you “stand condemned already”.

Come into the Light

Followers of Jesus will come into the light, exposing their weakness, sin, humanity, and failings. Jesus loves us exactly the way we are but loves us too much to leave us this way! His desire for us is for us to manifest or express his kingdom through our lives.

1 John 1:6
If we claim to have fellowship with him and yet walk in the darkness, we lie and do not live out the truth.

Seeing and Entering the Kingdom of God

John 3:3-8
3 Jesus replied, “Very truly I tell you, no one can see the kingdom of God unless they are born again.” 4 “How can someone be born when they are old?” Nicodemus asked. “Surely they cannot enter a second time into their mother’s womb to be born!” 5 Jesus answered, “Very truly I tell you, no one can enter the kingdom of God unless they are born of water and the Spirit. 6 Flesh gives birth to flesh, but the Spirit gives birth to spirit. 7 You should not be surprised at my saying, ‘You must be born again.’ 8 The wind blows wherever it pleases. You hear its sound, but you cannot tell where it comes from or where it is going. So it is with everyone born of the Spirit.”

Signs equated to the Kingdom of God

John 3:2,3
“Rabbi, we know that you are a teacher who has come from God. For no one could perform the signs you are doing if God were not with him.” 3 Jesus replied, “Very truly I tell you, no one can see the kingdom of God unless they are born again.”

Born of Water

Water Baptism is a symbol of the death burial and resurrection of Jesus and when we get water baptized we are saying we are dying to our old man and going to live for Christ. Gal 2:20. It’s a covenant ceremony.

Born of the Spirit

Like the Wind

John 3:8
8 The wind blows wherever it pleases. You hear its sound, but you cannot tell where it comes from or where it is going. So it is with everyone born of the Spirit.”

Elijah is our Old Testament example of a man led by the spirit.

1 Kings 18:11-15
11 But now you tell me to go to my master and say, ‘Elijah is here.’ 12 I don’t know where the Spirit of the Lord may carry you when I leave you. If I go and tell Ahab and he doesn’t find you, he will kill me. Yet I your servant have worshiped the Lord since my youth. 13 Haven’t you heard, my lord, what I did while Jezebel was killing the prophets of the Lord? I hid a hundred of the Lord’s prophets in two caves, fifty in each, and supplied them with food and water. 14 And now you tell me to go to my master and say, ‘Elijah is here.’ He will kill me!” 15 Elijah said, “As the Lord Almighty lives, whom I serve, I will surely present myself to Ahab today.”

Sixty eight times the phrase “Kingdom of God” appears in the New Testament.   Fifty six times or approximately 80% of the time, the phrase refers to the establishment of a Kingdom in the present that’s near or a kingdom in the heart, right here right now. Approximately 20% of the time, the phrase refers to a Heavenly Kingdom or the Millennial reign of Christ, a future kingdom.

Luke 17:20,21
20 Once, on being asked by the Pharisees when the kingdom of God would come, Jesus replied, “The coming of the kingdom of God is not something that can be observed, 21 nor will people say, ‘Here it is,’ or ‘There it is,’ because the kingdom of God is within you.”

Matthew 12:28
But if it is by the Spirit of God that I drive out demons, then the kingdom of God has come upon you.

Jesus cast out spirits because his Kingdom is superior to the kingdoms of this world. Demons are of this world and are subject to the superior kingdom in the same way a corporal will take orders from a General, unclean spirits had to submit to the authority of the king of the kingdom of God.

That same King, if ruling and reigning in our hearts will deputize us with authority to do the very work he did.

John 14:12
12 Very truly I tell you, whoever believes in me will do the works I have been doing, and they will do even greater things than these, because I am going to the Father.

Romans 14:17
17 For the kingdom of God is not a matter of eating and drinking, but of righteousness, peace and joy in the Holy Spirit, The Kingdom of God is expressed wherever Jesus Christ rules the hearts and minds of his subjects. When the believer exhibits self rule they will not express the kingdom.

The challenge today is to come up to the level of being a kingdom man or a kingdom woman. If you believe in Jesus you are saved according to the Word of God. However, there is a lot of work to do until we meet him face to face. Let’s fight the good fight of faith, believing to become kingdom manifesters, kingdom expressers. Let’s allow the king of the kingdom to touch lives through us.

We have an inheritance and it’s realized through faith and patience.

Inheritance: the acquisition of a possession, condition, or trait from past generations.

In order to receive this inheritance we must see it with the eye of faith and wait for it with patience.

The inheritance I see is be being able to act like Jesus.

I believe our spiritual inheritance is not only eternal life. I believe it’s also kingdom life on the earth. I believe you and I, according to John 14:12, (Very truly I tell you, whoever believes in me will do the works I have been doing, and they will do even greater things than these, because I am going to the Father.), can do amazing things in the name of Jesus according to his purposes and for his glory.

Hebrews 6:12 We do not want you to become lazy, but to imitate those who through faith and patience inherit what has been promised.

Laziness will prevent us from receiving our inheritance.

Laziness
I have been talking with several people in our Church lately (I’m in this boat also to one degree or another unfortunately) who are highly educated in a particular area but lack the self discipline to execute on the information. The desires of the heart are superseding the information in the mind.

2 Timothy 1:7
For the Spirit God gave us does not make us timid, but gives us power, love, and self-discipline.

So how do we do what we “hate” to get something we want? What we want has to be so real and so important that we’ll take the road of adversity and challenge to get there.

I know when I had a Lab in Boston give me a very negative health report, I began to make some serious changes I didn’t like very much. I did this because I had faith I would live and I trusted the information I was gleaning from my chiropractor friends, established nutritionists, and the internet. I also didn’t want to leave my children without me as their father. So I ate foods I didn’t particularly like in order to get something I wanted. More time on the Earth with you and my family. More time to rack up eternal treasure and harass the enemy.

When I was an athlete I was very disciplined in what I ate and how I lived due to the fact that I had a goal I would do almost anything to achieve.

1 Corinthians 9:24
Do you not know that in a race all the runners run, but only one gets the prize? Run in such a way as to get the prize.

Keep our eyes on the prize!

Matthew 14:28-31
28 “Lord, if it’s you,” Peter replied, “tell me to come to you on the water.” 29 “Come,” he said. Then Peter got down out of the boat, walked on the water and came toward Jesus. 30 But when he saw the wind, he was afraid and, beginning to sink, cried out, “Lord, save me!” 31 Immediately Jesus reached out his hand and caught him. “You of little faith,” he said, “why did you doubt?”

So our example from Hebrews 6 is Abraham
  • 13 When God made his promise to Abraham, since there was no one greater for him to swear by, he swore by himself, 14 saying, “I will surely bless you and give you many descendants.” 15 And so after waiting patiently, Abraham received what was promised.
Abraham had a 25 year wait from Promise to Manifestation.

From Genesis 12:4 where Abraham receives the promise and is 75 years old to Genesis 17:15-17 Abraham ages another 25 years.

Does the fact that God waited until this couple was "as good as dead" to give them the promised child help explain the wait? (This is a recurring pattern in God's dealings with humans. He waits until it is impossible, and then He does the impossible - so that no one is confused about God's role in the matter.)

What has God promised you? Perhaps you’ve had big vision but you’ve grown weary in patience.

Maybe you are cynical and aren’t believing for anything thinking people who do this are fools.

Maybe you have a word from God or several words from God that you are standing on and are waiting patiently for the fulfillment.

Today I want to pray for you for new vision and patience to wait for the fulfillment of that vision.

2 Peter 3:9
9 The Lord is not slow in keeping his promise, as some understand slowness. Instead he is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance.

John 10:10b (KJV)
I am come that they might have life, (zoe) and that they might have it more abundantly.

John 10:10b (NIV)
I have come that they may have life (zoe), and have it to the full.

John 10:10b (Amplified)
I came that they may have and enjoy life (zoe), and have it in abundance (to the full, till it overflows).

John 10:10b (MSG)
I came so they can have real and eternal life, more and better life than they ever dreamed of.

Thesis:
The abundant life that Jesus offers us in John 10:10 will cause the believer to very closely resemble the life that Jesus lived on the Earth; including godly character and Holy Spirit manifestations.

I don’t believe John 10:10 is talking about the American dream.

The American dream is a national ethos of the United States in which freedom includes the opportunity for prosperity and success, and an upward social mobility achieved through hard work.

I’m pro freedom, opportunity, prosperity, success, and rewarded hard work.  I believe these are national opportunities due to the type of nation we live in.  I do see a distinction, however, between the abundant life Christ offers and achieving “The American Dream.”

Outline:
1. Jesus came to give us life to the full.
2. Jesus came to destroy the works of the evil one.
3. Jesus did not come to bring peace but polarizing truth that creates division.

Zoe life includes the idea of the present sojourn of man upon the earth with reference to its duration.

Zoe Life

John 1:4
In Him was life, and that life was the light of men.

One of the great concepts of the Gospel of John is life.  The Greek word for “life” is found 36 times in John, while no other NT book uses it more than 17 times.  Life is Christ’s gift and He is “the life”.

I. Jesus Came to give us life to the full.

What exactly does abundant life (zoe) look like?

A. Zoe
Zoe is used in the New Testament as life as God has it, that which the Father has in Himself, and which He gave to the Incarnate Son to have in Himself.

John 5:26
For as the Father has zoe in Himself, so He has granted the Son also to have zoe in Himself.

The believer, by abiding, remaining, and putting their roots into Christ, can stay attached to this life source and flourish spiritually.

John 15:5
“I am the vine; you are the branches. If you remain in me and I in you, you will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing.

B. Darkened understanding caused by ignorance from a hard heart cuts people off from this life.

Eph. 4:18
They are darkened in their understanding and separated from the life (zoe) of God because of the ignorance that is in them due to the hardening of their hearts.

The enemy blinds the minds of unbelievers keeping them from the truth.

2 Cor. 4:4
4 The god of this age has blinded the minds of unbelievers, so that they cannot see the light of the gospel that displays the glory of Christ, who is the image of God.

C. People can become partakers of zoe (life) through faith in the Lord Jesus Christ

John 3:15
15 that everyone who believes may have eternal life (zoe) in him.

Faith is the key that unlocks zoe life for the individual.

Believing, trusting, and placing your hopes in Christ opens the channel of flow from God to you so you can receive this abundant life God promises.

D. Jesus Christ is the author of (zoe) life.

Acts 3:15
15 You killed the author of life, but God raised him from the dead. We are witnesses of this.

E. Jesus Christ is the life of the believer

Colossians 3:4
When Christ, who is your life, appears, then you also will appear with Him in glory.

Christ is the example of zoe life. Christ is to be our lives.

F. The Zoe life that Christ gives, He also maintains.

John 6:35,63
35 Then Jesus declared, “I am the bread of life. Whoever comes to me will never go hungry, and whoever believes in me will never be thirsty. 63 The Spirit gives life; the flesh counts for nothing. The words I have spoken to you—they are full of the Spirit and life.

Colossians 1:17
17 He is before all things, and in Him all things hold together.

G. There is a false life and a true life.

By taking material possessions and being generous, we can take hold of the life that is truly life.

1 Timothy 6:19
In this way they will lay up treasure for themselves as a firm foundation for the coming age, so that they may take hold of the life that is truly life.

Our Ability Comes from God

These notes are best when used in conjunction with the audio or video. To listen to the audio (podcast), click here. To watch the video, click here.

God’s kingdom can be expressed to and through your life.

No matter what enemy you are facing today
- Sin
- Fear
- Apathy
- Feelings of inferiority
- Ignorance
- God’s kingdom can be expressed to and through your life.

The Kingdom of God is a conquering kingdom and can easily conquer all the kingdoms of our hearts. Walking in obedience to God’s kingdom is more rewarding, powerful and desirable than any other activity on the planet.

Ephesians 1:18-21
18 I pray that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened in order that you may know the hope to which he has called you, the riches of his glorious inheritance in his holy people, 19 and his incomparably great power for us who believe. That power is the same as the mighty strength 20 he exerted when he raised Christ from the dead and seated him at his right hand in the heavenly realms, 21 far above all rule and authority, power and dominion, and every name that is invoked,
Ephesians 2:6
God raised us up with Christ and seated us with him in the heavenly realms in Christ Jesus,

We need our eyes enlightened in order to know what we’ve been called to
  • The hope, that we’ve been called to
  • The riches of His glorious inheritance
  • His incomparably great power
The Hope That We' ve Been Called To

Romans 8:24
hope that is seen is no hope at all. Who hopes for what they already have?
The Riches of His Glorious Inheritance
a. Eternal Life
b. Victorious Life
c. Kingdom Life

A. Inherit Eternal Life

Matthew 25:31-36
31 “When the Son of Man comes in his glory, and all the angels with him, he will sit on his glorious throne. 32 All the nations will be gathered before him, and he will separate the people one from another as a shepherd separates the sheep from the goats. 33 He will put the sheep on his right and the goats on his left.

34 “Then the King will say to those on his right, ‘Come, you who are blessed by my Father; take your inheritance, the kingdom prepared for you since the creation of the world. 35 For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in, 36 I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison and you came to visit me.’

B. Inherit Victorious Life

Titus 2:11,12
11 For the grace of God has appeared that offers salvation to all people. 12 It teaches us to say “No” to ungodliness and worldly passions, and to live self-controlled, upright and godly lives in this present age,

Grace is power to do the will of God and it’s freely available to the humble follower of Christ.
James 4:6
But he gives us more grace. That is why Scripture says: “God opposes the proud but shows favor to the humble.”

Luke 10:19
I have given you authority to trample on snakes and scorpions and to overcome all the power of the enemy; nothing will harm you.

C. Inherit Kingdom Life

Luke 12:32
32 “Do not be afraid, little flock, for your Father has been pleased to give you the kingdom.

At the center of any kingdom is a King. The kingdom life we’re promised causes the kingdoms of this life to come down and the kingdom of God to be established in newly conquered hearts.

His Incomparably Great Power
Acts 1:8 But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.”

Luke 11:9-13
9 “So I say to you: Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you. 10 For everyone who asks receives; he who seeks finds; and to him who knocks, the door will be opened. 11 “Which of you fathers, if your son asks for a fish, will give him a snake instead? 12 Or if he asks for an egg, will give him a scorpion? 13 If you then, though you are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give the Holy Spirit to those who ask him!”

John 3:34
God gives the Holy Spirit without limit.

The Holy Spirit is an active agent of the God head moving through the body of Christ today. The Holy Spirit moves through obedient people.

2 Peter 1:3
His divine power has given us everything we need for life and godliness through our knowledge of him who called us by his own glory and goodness.

Gamalial’s address to the Sanhedrin
Acts 5:38,39
38 Therefore, in the present case I advise you: Leave these men alone! Let them go! For if their purpose or activity is of human origin, it will fail. 39 But if it is from God, you will not be able to stop these men; you will only find yourselves fighting against God.”

Romans 8:31,32
31 What, then, shall we say in response to this? If God is for us, who can be against us? 32 He who did not spare his own Son, but gave him up for us all—how will he not also, along with him, graciously give us all things?

Philippians 4:13
13 I can do everything through him who gives me strength.
