What is Sin?
1. a missing of the mark,
2. a principle or source of action, or an inward element producing acts, a governing principle or power,
3. an act of disobedience to Divine law.

Sins of commission – To commit some kind of act of disobedience.

Sins of omission – To omit or leave out some kind of act of obedience to the Lord.

1. The Penalty for Sin

John 5:14
14Later Jesus found him at the temple and said to him, "See, you are well again. Stop sinning or something worse may happen to you."

By Implication we know that Jesus is telling this guy his sin will have an effect on his health. He was an invalid for 38 years. Something worse than that was to come upon him if he kept sinning.

Romans 6:23a
For the wages of sin is death,
Spiritual Death but also Physical Death

The payment for sin is death. Our physical bodies stop working because of disease/sickness, accidents, or fatigue.

Different Sins have different repercussions.
1 Corinthians 6:18
Flee from sexual immorality. All other sins a man commits are outside his body, but he who sins sexually sins against his own body.

I think if we all did an honest assessment of our lives and looked over our life spans at the most difficulty we’ve encountered it’s been because of our sin or the sin of someone else. When we walk in obedience to God’s will and ways we walk in the fruits of the spirit.

The principle further explained.

Luke 13:2-5
2Jesus answered, "Do you think that these Galileans were worse sinners than all the other Galileans because they suffered this way? 3I tell you, no! But unless you repent, you too will all perish. 4Or those eighteen who died when the tower in Siloam fell on them—do you think they were more guilty than all the others living in Jerusalem? 5I tell you, no! But unless you repent, you too will all perish."

Matthew 3:8
8Produce fruit in keeping with repentance.

The Parable

Luke 13:6-9 6Then he told this parable: "A man had a fig tree, planted in his vineyard, and he went to look for fruit on it, but did not find any. 7So he said to the man who took care of the vineyard, 'For three years now I've been coming to look for fruit on this fig tree and haven't found any. Cut it down! Why should it use up the soil?' 8" 'Sir,' the man replied, 'leave it alone for one more year, and I'll dig around it and fertilize it. 9If it bears fruit next year, fine! If not, then cut it down.' “ These Galileans were insurgents and Pontus Pilate had them killed on the altar where the Romans made their sacrifices thus mingling the blood and defiling their bodies.

Repentance - In the NT the subject chiefly has reference to "repentance" from sin, and this change of mind involves both a turning from sin and a turning to God.

2. The Path to Victory over Sin
TWO WOLVES
One evening an old Cherokee told his grandson about a battle that goes on inside people. He said, "My son, the battle is between two wolves inside us all. "One is Evil - It is anger, envy, jealousy, sorrow, regret, greed, arrogance, self-pity, guilt, resentment, inferiority, lies, false pride, superiority, and ego.
"The other is Good - It is joy, peace, love, hope, serenity, humility, kindness, benevolence, empathy, generosity, truth, compassion and faith." The grandson thought about it for a minute and then asked his grandfather: "Which wolf wins?" The old Cherokee simply replied,

"The one you feed."

Crucify the flesh and nourish the spirit

Galatians 5:16-26
16So I say, live by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the sinful nature. 17For the sinful nature desires what is contrary to the Spirit, and the Spirit what is contrary to the sinful nature. They are in conflict with each other, so that you do not do what you want.

18But if you are led by the Spirit, you are not under law. 19The acts of the sinful nature are obvious: sexual immorality, impurity and debauchery;

20idolatry and witchcraft; hatred, discord, jealousy, fits of rage, selfish ambition, dissensions, factions 21and envy; drunkenness, orgies, and the like. I warn you, as I did before, that those who live like this will not inherit the kingdom of God.
22But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness,

23gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law. 24Those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the sinful nature with its passions and desires. 25Since we live by the Spirit, let us keep in step with the Spirit. 26Let us not become conceited, provoking and envying each other.

3. The Payment for Sin

Jesus paid the price for our sins by dying on the cross and if we receive Jesus by faith we receive forgiveness for our sins and can walk in newness of life.

Watch this 5 minute video, pray and ask God to help you see yourself the way He sees you. Then repent for your sins.
