  I.    Dream It – Understand God’s Will
II.   Plan It – Administrate the plan
III.  Build It – Get to Work

In order for things to happen in the Church there must be a heavenly dream, vision or direction. This is followed by an administrative plan to execute the vision, then it’s followed by work.

Dream It

Prayer and Bible Meditation

Your dream, if it’s going to be God’s plan for your life, must come from prayer and Bible meditation.

I, as well as several others in the Church, have been having visions of our Church building full of people.

The Vision

Habakkuk 2:2b
“Write down the revelation and make it plain on tablets so that a herald[a] may run with it.

*Or so that whoever reads it
*The vision needs to be articulated in a simple way.

Plan It

The Plan of God

2 Peter 3:9
The Lord is not slow in keeping his promise, as some understand slowness. Instead he is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance.

Psalm 127:1b
Unless the LORD builds the house, the builders labor in vain. Unless the LORD watches over the city, the guards stand watch in vain.

This passage doesn’t mean the Lord literally builds the house; it means the Lord speaks to the builders what to build, where to build, and how to build and the builder’s hear and obey the direction of the Lord.

Psalm 33:11
But the plans of the LORD stand firm forever, the purposes of his heart through all generations.

God will find someone to execute his plan.  We want to make sure we’re in the plan in a positive way. I want to see the glory and manifestations of God.

Luke 19:44
44 They will dash you to the ground, you and the children within your walls. They will not leave one stone on another, because you did not recognize the time of God’s coming to you.”

God came to the Jews in the person of Jesus the Messiah, but they failed to recognize him and rejected him, this resulted in national judgment.

I believe it’s in the heart of God to send a wave of renewal, revival, and awakening across the United States of America. The question then becomes, what role are we going to play in this?

*Oblivious to it?
*Watching from the sidelines?
*Riding the waves of revival?

Proverbs 15:22
Plans fail for lack of counsel, but with many advisers they succeed.

Build It

Settle the Issue

When we’ve decided what GOD is saying then we should settle the issue and go for it.

James 1:6-8
6 But when you ask, you must believe and not doubt, because the one who doubts is like a wave of the sea, blown and tossed by the wind. 7 That person should not expect to receive anything from the Lord. 8 Such a person is double-minded and unstable in all they do.

God gives the information and the inspiration to do the work.

Galatians 6:9
Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.

Acts 4:33
With great power the apostles continued to testify to the resurrection of the Lord Jesus. And God’s grace was so powerfully at work in them all.

So the vision God has given us is to win souls and make disciples. This will require a plan and some work.

The Plan
  • Pray for the passion of Jesus to reside and increase in the people of this Church.
  • The plan is to teach everyone who’s willing an easy to remember, hard to forget, and fun way to share their faith.
  • Find leaders in the congregation who are willing and capable of teaching others by demonstration.
  • Release these new leaders to teach others by demonstration.
  • The end result looks like multiple, increasing, teams going out into the community effectively sharing their faith.
Nehemiah’s Response

Nehemiah 1:3b-4
The wall of Jerusalem is broken down, and its gates have been burned with fire.” 4 When I heard these things, I sat down and wept. For some days I mourned and fasted and prayed before the God of heaven.

In some figurative ways, the walls of our Country are broken down. There are multitudes of people within our country, city, and even churches who don’t know the Lord.

Have we taken the time to pray and allow God to touch our emotions at a deep and consistent level?

II Chronicles 7:14
If my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and I will forgive their sin and will heal their land.

In order for things to happen in the Church, there must be a heavenly dream, vision, or direction. This is followed by an administrative plan to execute the vision, then it’s followed by work.

Having God’s Mind

In conclusion, I want to go back to the concept of vision and hearing from God and what this does inside the heart of a person. In the context of Nehemiah's call to rebuild the wall’s of Jerusalem.

Raising up Fruit Bearing Disciples

John 15:8
This is to my Father's glory, that you bear much fruit, showing yourselves to be my disciples.

John 15:5
"I am the vine; you are the branches. If a man remains in me and I in him, he will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing.

The Parables of the Mustard Seed and the Parable of the Yeast

Matthew 13:31-33
He told them another parable: "The kingdom of heaven is like a mustard seed, which a man took and planted in his field. 32Though it is the smallest of all your seeds, yet when it grows, it is the largest of garden plants and becomes a tree, so that the birds of the air come and perch in its branches."   33He told them still another parable: "The kingdom of heaven is like yeast that a woman took and mixed into a large amount of flour until it worked all through the dough."

Discipleship
  • The Call to Discipleship
  • The Commitment to Discipleship
  • The Commission to Discipleship
What’s a modern day disciple?

1 Corinthians 11:1
Pattern yourselves after me [follow my example], as I imitate and follow Christ (the Messiah). (Amplified) The Call to Discipleship “follow me.”

Acts 4:13
When they saw the courage of Peter and John and realized that they were unschooled, ordinary men, they were astonished and they took note that these men had been with Jesus.

1 Samuel 22:2
All those who were in distress or in debt or discontented gathered around him, and he became their leader. About four hundred men were with him. A book and a chapter later

2 Samuel 23:8
David’s followers are now called Mighty men.

The Call to Discipleship

The call to discipleship is not theologically complicated.  Simply enter into a relationship with someone and let them taste and see that the Lord is Good.  If you’re working with the right person they should start following you.  When their heart opens to you in this way you’ve got yourself a disciple.

The Commitment to Discipleship

Entering into a discipleship relationship is very easy.  Staying in that relationship can be a challenge. It requires commitment by both parties.

Sometimes Disciples Leave

John 6:67-68 67
"You do not want to leave too, do you?" Jesus asked the Twelve.  68Simon Peter answered him, "Lord, to whom shall we go? You have the words of eternal life. 69We believe and know that you are the Holy One of God."

Commitment

Matthew 16:24-26
Then Jesus said to his disciples, "If anyone would come after me, he must deny himself and take up his cross and follow me. 25For whoever wants to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for me will find it. 26What good will it be for a man if he gains the whole world, yet forfeits his soul? Or what can a man give in exchange for his soul?

The Commission to Discipleship

Matthew 28:16-20
Then the eleven disciples went to Galilee, to the mountain where Jesus had told them to go. 17When they saw him, they worshiped him; but some doubted. 18Then Jesus came to them and said, "All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. 19Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age."

Concentric Circles of Influence

Acts 1:8
But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth."

Jesus was a Small Group Leader

The Church’s Passion
The Passion of the Church should be love for God and people.

Luke 10:27
He answered: " 'Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength and with all your mind' ; and, 'Love your neighbor as yourself.' "

The Church’s Mission
The Mission of the church should be to raise up followers who are following Christ in you. A.K.A. disciples

1 Corinthians 11:1 (Amplified)
PATTERN YOURSELVES after me [follow my example], as I imitate and follow Christ (the Messiah).
Matthew 28:19 The Great Commission

Matthew 27:8-11
8"But you are not to be called 'Rabbi,' for you have only one Master and you are all brothers. 9And do not call anyone on earth 'father,' for you have one Father, and he is in heaven. 10Nor are you to be called 'teacher,' for you have one Teacher, the Christ. 11The greatest among you will be your servant.

The Holy Spirit as our Guide
John 16:13
13But when he, the Spirit of truth, comes, he will guide you into all truth. He will not speak on his own; he will speak only what he hears, and he will tell you what is yet to come.

The subjectivity of hearing from the Holy Spirit has led some people into error. Sometimes people hear their own hearts, what they want to hear.

Jeremiah 17:9
9 The heart is deceitful above all things and beyond cure. Who can understand it?

Jesus referring to human teachers
Luke 6:40
40A student is not above his teacher, but everyone who is fully trained will be like his teacher.
The Early Church met in Homes
Acts 5:42 Day after day, in the temple courts and from house to house, they never stopped teaching and proclaiming the good news that Jesus is the Christ.

Acts 8:3 But Saul began to destroy the church. Going from house to house, he dragged off men and women and put them in prison.

Acts 20:20 You know that I have not hesitated to preach anything that would be helpful to you but have taught you publicly and from house to house.

A small group is a great place to expose people to the Christ in you.

Another place where lots of discipleship happens is working together on something.

Why didn’t Jesus try and build what we would consider a modern day mega church?

Multiple Choice
A. It wasn’t God’s plan for his life.
B. It’s a faulty strategy.
C. It wouldn’t produce the correct results
D. All the above

He was making a spiritual deposit into the lives of men who he was entrusting to duplicate his ministry.

We know the early disciples were not sinless but we also know according to eyewitness accounts they were effective …
Acts 17:6
6But when they did not find them, they dragged Jason and some other brothers before the city officials, shouting: "These men who have caused trouble all over the world have now come here,
Several translations say “turned the world upside down.”

Jesus was successful at transmitting his Spirit into the lives of the early disciples creating a multiplication effect. This is one way we bear fruit as believers today. Who is following Christ in you and who has followed and is now leading others to Christ.

Does anyone have spiritual grand children? If you do you possibly have captured the essence of Jesus’ small group ministry.

12 people wide 10 people deep will allow the church to reach 5 billion souls!

The population of
the entire Earth last night at 10:30 PM was
6,836,229,366

I. Small groups are, well small
That promotes conversation
   1. Questions
   2. Answers
   3. Social Intimacy
You get to know people, you get a chance to develop the Christian community.
Small groups keep the church personal and relevant.

     A. Small Groups Promote Conversation
Jesus disciples talked to Him and He talked to them. He spoke to them plainly
Matthew 13:10,11
10The disciples came to him and asked, "Why do you speak to the people in parables?" 11He replied, "The knowledge of the secrets of the kingdom of heaven has been given to you, but not to them.

        1. The Disciples asked Jesus questions
Mark 9:28 After Jesus had gone indoors, his disciples asked him privately, "Why couldn't we drive it out?“
Luke 9:54
"Lord, do you want us to call fire down from heaven to destroy them?“
Luke 22:49 When Jesus' followers saw what was going to happen, they said, "Lord, should we strike with our swords?"

        2. Jesus answered their questions
Mark 9:29
29He replied, "This kind can come out only by prayer.“
Luke 9:55
55But Jesus turned and rebuked them, And he said, "You do not know what kind of spirit you are of, for the Son of Man did not come to destroy men's lives, but to save them.“
Matthew 26:52
"Put your sword back in its place," Jesus said to him, "for all who draw the sword will die by the sword.

        3. Social Intimacy
Koinonia –
Koinonia means to have in common partnership, to share, fellowship and contribute.

Koinonia translated Share
Hebrews 13:16
16And do not forget to do good and to share with others, for with such sacrifices God is pleased.

1 Timothy 6:18 (KJV)
18Command them to do good, to be rich in good deeds, and to be generous and willing to share.
Koinonia translated Fellowship
1 Corinthians 1:9
9God, who has called you into fellowship with his Son Jesus Christ our Lord, is faithful.

Acts 2:42
42They devoted themselves to the apostles' teaching and to the fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to prayer.

Galatians 2:9
9James, Peter and John, those reputed to be pillars, gave me and Barnabas the right hand of fellowship when they recognized the grace given to me. They agreed that we should go to the Gentiles, and they to the Jews.
Koinonia translated Contribution
Romans 15:26
26For Macedonia and Achaia were pleased to make a contribution for the poor among the saints in Jerusalem.

2 Corinthians 9:13 (NASB)
13Because of the proof given by this ministry, they will glorify God for your obedience to your confession of the gospel of Christ and for the liberality of your contribution to them and to all,

You get to know people.
In small groups you, by listening to the leader and the other members of the group, get to know one another.

In Christian community you have an opportunity to share lives, needs, struggles, hopes, dreams, really every facet of life is on the table.

In Conclusion
We want to be as close to the New Testament pattern as we can.
Patterns are just that unless there are anointed people of character leading and a hunger for the Holy Spirit to minister to people.

We Need a National Revival

The Problem

The Problem with the Church in the United States

The Kingdom of God is an ever increasing kingdom. If it’s not increasing around us that doesn’t mean that the gospel is being hindered in other parts of the world.

Parts of Africa are on fire with the Gospel. People are hungry and miracles are prevalent.
China has a huge underground church movement.

The 9 Point Evangelical Questions
If you answer in the affirmative to these 9 questions then you would be considered a 9 point evangelical.
  1. Is your faith very important to you today?
  2. Is there a literal devil?
  3. Is Salvation based on grace not works?
  4. Do you have a personal responsibility to share your religious beliefs?
  5. Is God the top priority of your life?
  6. Do you believe that Jesus Christ lived a sinless life on earth?
  7. Do you believe the Bible is totally accurate in all of it’s teachings?
  8. Has your life been greatly transformed by your faith?
  9. Is God the all-knowing, all-powerful, perfect deity who created the universe and still rules it today?
While 38 percent of Americans claim to be "evangelical," for example, only eight percent meet these doctrinal criteria.

Watch this sobering video

Baby Boomers (Born 1946-1964) - 34 % Evangelical
Generation X (Born 1965-1984) -16 % Evangelical
Generation Y (Born 1985 - 2005) - 8 % Evangelical
The Next Generation (Born 2006 - 2025) - ?% Evangelical

If things don't change it looks like the next generation will be 4% evangelical.

Exodus 10:10,11
10 Pharaoh said, "The LORD be with you—if I let you go, along with your women and children! Clearly you are bent on evil. [a] 11 No! Have only the men go; and worship the LORD, since that's what you have been asking for." Then Moses and Aaron were driven out of Pharaoh's presence.

Pharaoh is a type of Satan, notice he doesn’t mind sending the men out to worship but leave the children behind. No children means no future. He’ll just wait them out and then he’ll have his agenda accomplished.
Destruction of the redeeming message of Christ!

The Individual Solution
Disciple the Nations

2 Corinthians 5:17,18
17Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; the old has gone, the new has come! 18All this is from God, who reconciled us to himself through Christ and gave us the ministry of reconciliation:

Every believer has been given the ministry of reconciliation.

Reconciliation – to restore to friendship or harmony.

Such a simple plan – Jesus did it. He was very good at discipling so he had 12 disciples. We may not be able to impart the spirit of God as good as he did so I encourage you to start with one person. Reach out to them, love them, tell them the truth, live the truth in front of them and be available to show them how to live the Christian life. If each one can influence one person this year like this, a chain reaction of Holy Spirit influence will be unleashed upon our region and will ripple out to the uttermost parts of the earth.

How did Andrea and I end up with 5 children? Well we got them one at a time. And what if each one of them has 5 children? We’ll have 25 grandchildren! How many great grand children will we have. 125!
So in only 3 generations we went from 2 to 5 to 25 to 125 people.

Such a powerful result
The difference between addition and multiplication.
Realistic Expectations
I don’t expect you to go out and lead 10 people to Christ this year and effectively disciple them to become fruit bearing believers.
I do expect you to go out and lead 1 person to Christ this year and effectively disciple them to become a fruit bearing believer. If you continue to do this and your new friend continues to do this you have now reached 3 people. Do this again and you now have reached 6 people. This can continue into perpetuity just like it is with Jesus.

Would you rather have a million dollars or have a penny doubled daily for a 31 day month?  If you doubled a penny every day for a month it would come to $21,474,836.48.

The illustration shows the power of multiplication over addition. The church’s focus has been on adding new believers instead of multiplying new believers. Always looking to the big crusades for conversions and not giving much attention to the simple believer who faithfully is pouring his or her life out for people around them in an effort to raise someone up for Christ.

2 Timothy 2:2
2And the things that thou hast heard of me among many witnesses, the same commit thou to faithful men, who shall be able to teach others also.

I.  Paul
     A.  Timothy
          1.  Faithful Men
               b.  Teach Others

Each one of us should have a Paul and a Timothy. You can have more than one but you should have at least one of each. If you don’t have a Timothy you should be looking for him/her.
Just like if you don’t have a job your job is to look for a job.

Follow Me
1 Corinthians 11:1 Follow my example, as I follow the example of Christ.

The fruitful people are the Evidence of the Ministry of effective Discipleship
2 Corinthians 3:1-3
1Are we beginning to commend ourselves again? Or do we need, like some people, letters of recommendation to you or from you? 2You yourselves are our letter, written on our hearts, known and read by everybody. 3You show that you are a letter from Christ, the result of our ministry, written not with ink but with the Spirit of the living God, not on tablets of stone but on tablets of human hearts.

Another Solution
We Need a True Revival

Revive
To make alive again.
: renewed attention to or interest in something b : a new presentation or publication of something old c (1) : a period of renewed religious interest

True revival puts Christ and the things of God on the forefront of everyone’s mind.

We’ve all experienced individual revival but what I’m believing for is national revival.

“Could a mariner sit idle if he heard the drowning cry? Could a doctor sit in comfort and let his patient die? Can the fireman sit idle letting men burn and give no hand? Can you sit at ease in Church with the world damned?”
          ~Leonard Ravenhill

National revival begins with individual revival which begins with prayer.

Discipleship

If you'd like to watch the video you can also click here.
How God uses people to change lives for the better.

David and his Disciples
The Disciples before they caught David’s Spirit.
1 Samuel 22:1
1 David left Gath and escaped to the cave of Adullam. When his brothers and his father's household heard about it, they went down to him there. 2 All those who were in distress or in debt or discontented gathered around him, and he became their leader. About four hundred men were with him.

Who does David’s leadership anointing attract?
People just like him.

David’s background
He’s fleeing from Saul who’s determined to kill him because his family line is going to be cut of from the kingdom and David is in line to inherit the kingship instead of Jonathan, his son.
He just finishes pretending being insane in front of Achish the king of Gath because Achish’s heard about David’s reputation of killing 10’s of thousands.

The 400 “D” people
1. Distress
2. Debt
3. Discontent

The People God’s sending you may be less than desirable in your opinion, however if you have the presence of God in you perhaps God is sending them to you so you can minister life where there had been death? Hope where there had been hopelessness. Courage where there had been fear?

Norman Schwarzkopf
Was known as a man who could go into a dysfunctional army unit and turn it around. He liked the challenge and was successful in his efforts. His record somewhat speaks for itself.

When People Join their hearts with a Godly Leader like David
But what happens to the 400 “D” people if they hook up with David? They listen to him, honor him and submit to his leadership? Sometimes it’s easy to go with someone else’s plan when you’ve come to the end of your own. The 3 D’s can get you to that place.

It’s important that we embrace the 3 “D” people! Don’t turn them away because there is an excellent chance that God is in it. Perfect people might not be interested in submitting to your leadership but people who are struggling and looking for answers are more willing to recognize that they don’t know everything and need some help with life.

Let’s look one book and one chapter ahead to see what is now going on in the life of the 400 “D” people who were attracted to David.

David’s 3 “D” people became mighty!
2 Samuel 23:39
Only 37 Made the journey with David. Of the 400; 363 fell by the wayside but 37 caught the spirit that was on David and began to do the things David did. Around 9% survived David’s discipleship school.

Wouldn’t it be wonderful to have 37 mighty men though! Especially after we see what these men have done.

Let’s open our Bibles and take a look at the exploits of David’s 37 mighty men.
2 Samuel 23:8-23

Jesus and his Disciples
The Disciples before the caught Jesus Spirit.
Some of the Personality Traits of the Disciples

Some of Jesus Disciples could’ve been momma’s boys.
Matthew 20:20,21
The Sons of Thunder?
20Then the mother of Zebedee's sons came to Jesus with her sons and, kneeling down, asked a favor of him. 21"What is it you want?" he asked. She said, "Grant that one of these two sons of mine may sit at your right and the other at your left in your kingdom."

Jesus Disciples were slow to learn
Matthew 15:15,16
15Peter said, "Explain the parable to us.“ 16"Are you still so dull?" Jesus asked them.

Jesus Disciples didn’t have his Heart
Matthew 19:13Then little children were brought to Jesus for him to place his hands on them and pray for them. But the disciples rebuked those who brought them.

The Disciples had Political Agendas
Mark 8:33But when Jesus turned and looked at his disciples, he rebuked Peter. "Get behind me, Satan!" he said. "You do not have in mind the things of God, but the things of men."

Jesus Disciples Didn’t meet his expectations.
Luke 8:25He got up and rebuked the wind and the raging waters; the storm subsided, and all was calm. "Where is your faith?" he asked his disciples. In fear and amazement they asked one another, "Who is this? He commands even the winds and the water, and they obey him."

Jesus understood the concept of fruit production
Matthew 13:23But the one who received the seed that fell on good soil is the man who hears the word and understands it. He produces a crop, yielding a hundred, sixty or thirty times what was sown."

The work Jesus Did with his disciples ultimately produced fruit! Even though Jesus didn’t see it with his Earthly eyes his disciples turned the world upside down with His teaching and the Holy Spirit equipped them to do amazing things.

What the disciples were like after they caught Jesus spirit.
Acts 17:6
6But when they did not find them, they dragged Jason and some other brothers before the city officials, shouting: "These men who have caused trouble all over the world have now come here,

Map of Modern Day Turkey, Greece and part of Syria

The Disciples were effectively delivering the message of the Gospel.
Acts 1:8
But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth."

Concentric Rings of Influence
· City
· Region
· Country
· Ends of the Earth

Jesus Disciples were
· Healing the Sick
· Casting out Demons
· Raising the Dead
Sound Familiar? They were doing what Jesus was doing because they caught the spirit that was on Jesus
1. Healing
Acts 5:15 As a result, people brought the sick into the streets and laid them on beds and mats so that at least Peter's shadow might fall on some of them as he passed by.
2. Deliverance
Acts 16:18 She kept this up for many days. Finally Paul became so troubled that he turned around and said to the spirit, "In the name of Jesus Christ I command you to come out of her!" At that moment the spirit left her.
3. Raising the Dead
Acts 20:9-12
9Seated in a window was a young man named Eutychus, who was sinking into a deep sleep as Paul talked on and on. When he was sound asleep, he fell to the ground from the third story and was picked up dead. 10Paul went down, threw himself on the young man and put his arms around him. "Don't be alarmed," he said. "He's alive!" 11Then he went upstairs again and broke bread and ate. After talking until daylight, he left. 12The people took the young man home alive and were greatly comforted.

4 Levels of Discipleship
2 Timothy 2:2
2And the things you have heard me say in the presence of many witnesses entrust to reliable men who will also be qualified to teach others.
Paul’s Teaching in a group setting, Timothy in the group.
Timothy understanding and then entrusting the same words to reliable men.
Reliable men are also qualified to teach others.

In Conclusion
However you receive people is what you get out of them.
Matthew 10:41
41Anyone who receives a prophet because he is a prophet will receive a prophet's reward, and anyone who receives a righteous man because he is a righteous man will receive a righteous man's reward.

If you rightly recognize and receive people for who they are you are in line to receive what they have!
If you break away in heart and miss the dimension of God the people around you are carrying you won’t receive what they’ve got.
This is one reason why the Bible tells us to Honor our Father and Mother.
