The Goal of The Christian
* God’s Will
* God’s Power
* Your Life

The individual vision God has for every person is to be like his son Jesus. Who are we to go a different direction when God feels this way about us?

Colossians 1:9b
We continually ask God to fill you with the knowledge of His will through all the wisdom and understanding that the Spirit gives,

Proverbs 29:18a
Where there is no vision the people perish

Habakkuk 2:2
And the LORD answered me, and said, Write the vision, and make it plain upon tables, that he may run that readeth it.

Ezekiel 37:3

He asked me, “Son of man, can these bones live?” I said, “Sovereign LORD, you alone know.” Can we do the will of God? Lord you know! However when it’s God’s will, it will come to pass, and we will be used by God if we can simply get into the flow of what God is doing to prepare his people for service in his Kingdom.

1 John 5:14,15
This is the confidence we have in approaching God: that if we ask anything according to his will, he hears us. 15 And if we know that he hears us—whatever we ask—we know that we have what we asked of him.

God’s Will
God’s objective for us as believers is to have us conformed to Jesus’ image.

Romans 8:28-29
28 And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose. 29 For those God foreknew he also predestined to be conformed to the image of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brothers and sisters.

Ephesians 4:13
until we all reach unity in the faith and in the knowledge of the Son of God and become mature, attaining to the whole measure of the fullness of Christ.

1 John 4:17,18
17 This is how love is made complete among us so that we will have confidence on the day of judgment: In this world we are like Jesus. 18 There is no fear in love. But perfect love drives out fear, because fear has to do with punishment. The one who fears is not made perfect in love.

God’s Power
Acts 4:33
With great power the apostles continued to testify to the resurrection of the Lord Jesus. And God’s grace was so powerfully at work in them all.

Your Life
2 Peter 1:3
His divine power has given us everything we need for a godly life through our knowledge of him who called us by his own glory and goodness.

There are two big areas that set Jesus Christ apart from the lost in his day.
1. Character
2. Power/Authority

1. Character
Hebrews 4:15
For we do not have a high priest who is unable to empathize with our weaknesses, but we have one who has been tempted in every way, just as we are—yet he did not sin.

2. Power / Authority
Luke 4:36

All the people were amazed and said to each other, “What words these are! With authority and power he gives orders to impure spirits and they come out!”

The Acid Test
An Acid Test in Chemistry - The traditional acid test for gold consists of placing a small drop of a strong acid, such as nitric acid, onto the metal's surface. Most metals fizz or bubble, while precious metals are unaffected. The acid test is thus decisive, immediate, cheap and simple.

The acid test for reaching God’s goal for our lives.

  • The inner witness of the Holy Spirit
  • The testimony of Others
  • Some very measurable tangible things
*Am I doing what Jesus did?
    *Persecuted for Righteousness sake

Inner Witness
Romans 8:16
The Spirit himself testifies with our spirit that we are God’s children.

1 John 5:13
13 I write these things to you who believe in the name of the Son of God so that you may know that you have eternal life.

Testimony of Others
The Exception
Luke 6:26
Woe to you when everyone speaks well of you, for that is how their ancestors treated the false prophets.

Character / Power and Authority for the Believer
Sin - 1 John 3:9
No one who is born of God will continue to sin, because God’s seed remains in them; they cannot go on sinning, because they have been born of God.

Power - John 14:12
12 Very truly I tell you, whoever believes in me will do the works I have been doing, and they will do even greater things than these, because I am going to the Father.

Persecution - 2 Timothy 3:12
12 In fact, everyone who wants to live a godly life in Christ Jesus will be persecuted,

Romans 8:17
Now if we are children, then we are heirs—heirs of God and co-heirs with Christ, if indeed we share in his sufferings in order that we may also share in his glory.

2 Timothy 2:3
Join with me in suffering, like a good soldier of Christ Jesus.

The Persecution Curve

Imagine 50 people who act exactly like Jesus Christ in one town.
